- The name of this helmet is derived from the macaques, a genus of widely distributed African and Asian primates. Taking into account the mythos of Sun Wukong, it's also likely that the name of the helmet refers to the Six-Eared Macaque.
- In particular, the "Sun" in Sun Wukong can be seen as a derivative of húsūn (猢猻), which translates to "monkey" or "macaque".
