For domesticating Vascas, see Vasca Kavat.

A drinker of life, this kavat prowls the Plains upon dusk.

The Vasca Virus is a highly infectious, parasitic blood-borne virus unique to Kavats that spreads through contact with their saliva. The virus is extremely sensitive to light and, as such, infected kavats are completely nocturnal. Despite this, infected kavats cause great disturbances in any ecosystem they find themselves in, destroying entire animal colonies overnight. Whilst a Vasca Curative exists, it does not protect against future infections.

Ostia Vasca[]

The first and most noticeable stage: the infected kavat will begin to develop ears akin to a bat's wings and its fangs will elongate. It is at this point infected kavats will also begin to crave blood. These changes render the host quite weak.

When captured via Conservation they will reward the following:

Bau Vasca[]

At this stage the infected kavat will have become accustomed to their modified body, proficiently hunting for more prey to drain of blood and other kavats to infect. Other than this, they are not much different from their weaker selves.

When captured via Conservation they will reward the following:

Nephil Vasca[]

The final stage of the Vasca virus. These kavats exist solely to spread the virus. They are insatiably ravenous for blood; the only thing their bodies can tolerate digesting. Even at this stage they can still be cured, albeit at great difficulty.

When captured via Conservation they will reward the following:

Vasca Curative[]

Known as 'lisau heisah' by the Ostrons, this is a traditionally-brewed remedy for the Vasca Virus. Once applied any infected Kavats within a short radius are cured.

—Item description

Vasca Curative is a gear item that cures nearby Kavats of the Vasca virus. It can be bought from Master Teasonai on Cetus for ReputationBlackx64.png 500 each.

  • Domesticated Kavats can also be infected with the Vasca virus, though it merely applies a red overlay. However, Vulpaphylas are immune to infection.
    • Avoid bringing Kavats into the Plains of Eidolon at night to avoid possible infection.

  • The Vasca virus is likely inspired by a combination of vampires and the real-life parasitic disease Toxoplasmosis.
