Hello there fellow editors I'm here to talk about the "Inertia" melee mechanic that you can find the mentions of in articles such as Scindo or Glaive Prime. Or rather about the lack there of of such a mechanic.

Inertia used to be a property of mostly-heavier melee weapons (and some light ones too, such as single and dual daggers) that would give a complete immunity to crowd-control effects during the swing animation. It was a stance-specific parameter actually, so the newer stances such as Vengeful Revenant or Four Riders was able to make normally-not-inertial Swords and Claws resilient to interruption as well. Good times.

It was ditched in Chimera Prologue update (for normal attacks) in favor of auto-blocking, and discontinued altogether after the Melee Phase 2 update, which have made all the full-body stanced combo animation interruptable at any point. However mentions of Inertia are still present in the articles. Furthermore, mention of it can be found in Paracesis article - a weapon added same patch the mechanic was removed - so I have to presume not everybody perfectly knew what the mechanic was and what it did.

At the time of writing I am revamping melee articles over at Russian wikia, so I have tracked down and removed/archived everything Inertia-related there. Sadly I'm not in a position to go on the same edit spree over here, so I'm kindly asking some of you to make the articles up-to-date by removing anything that looks similar to:

*Possesses momentum during regular swings, which resists interruption such as stagger or knockdown.

Thank you in advance, and pardon for the sub-pair grammar.

Oh, and to keep the search range more reasonable, here is a list of weapon classes that used to have this mechanic, thus that are more likely to contain the outdated information:

  • Gunblades
  • Glaives
  • Daggers and Dual Daggers
  • Polearms
  • Scythes
  • Mechetes
  • Hammers
  • Dual Swords
  • Heavy Blades
    and
  • Whips
