  • I'm using a level 30 supercharged "Dual Ether".

I've always believed in this wiki's information about the "Dual Ether" ignoring the enemies' armor and therefore never used armor penetration on it before.

Today I fused my 20 or more "Armor Penetration" mods ("Sundering Strike") to almost max. (60% armor penetration) and used it on my "Dual Ether". The result: it deals AT LEAST double the damage. Now only one sliding hit takes down all normal (non-boss or heavy) enemies with level 25-35.

Afterwards I took it off again, returning the blade to its past state, meaning I had to hit them 3 times sliding to kill them again.

Therefore: I don't know who came up with this "ignores armor" but it's simply wrong.

At least as long as "Armor Penetration" boosting the weapons damage contradicts "ignores armor".

    • It ignores armor. However, adding the mod armor penetration will still add additional damage. The armor piercing is entirely different. Try using an unmodded skana on grinneer, without using the charge attack. Notice the low damage? The Sundering Strike and other armor piercing mods add additional damage, and can be thought of almost as a elemental mod, just like the fire or electric, which also add damage. This damage is more effective on armored targets, like any of the grineer.

    • I don't know what is Ignores armor works?

but you need to see Armor Piercing Damage as Elemental Damage.

Most Grineer weaks to Armor Piercing Damage

Most Infested weaks to Fire Damage

Most Corpus weaks to Electrical Damage

Most Enemy with Shield weaks to Freeze Dagmage

    • Armor Ignore attribute is simply allowing the weapon to do full base damage, bypassing armor and any damage reduction.

You could actually test it by normal-attacking Lv.1 Grineer Lancer on Mercury with no mods plugged. Dual Ether ALWAYS does 30 damage. Try it with Skana/other non-Armor Ignore weapon. It's always less than its base damage, because it doesn't bypassed the enemy's armor.

Just like ThatGuy said, Armor Penetration is treated as an elemental damage, which only add another damage count, based on your weapon's base damage. Based on your case, it's like you do second slide hit, only with Armor Penetration damage which is equals to 60% your base damage, not including the vulnerabilities calculation, which then added to the total damage count.

Please CMIIW, but as far as I know (and I tested), it's the truth.

    • Slide attack on the Dual Ether doesn't ignore armor in any case.  Makes up for it by being 150 base damage, more than the charge attack.

    • The Grineer's armor does not allow weapons to deal full damage, scaling the damage blocked with level. Armor Ignore capability means the weapon completely ignores armor and always deals full damage to armored enemies.

Armor Pierce is a whole other deal; it is considered elemental damage, like fire, ice and electricity. It just deals bonus damage to armored targets, just like other elemental mods.

tl;dr You are wrong, Armor Pierce and Armor Ignore are different. Dual Ether DOES ignore armor.

    • Part of the problem here is the use of terminology. We should start moving away as describing weapons as dealing "armor ignoring" damage.

Technically, Dual Ether deals Serrated Blade damage on normal and charge attacks, which ignores the armor of most enemies. Moreover, Armor Piercing is actually not a "whole other deal." Armor Piercing, like Serrated Blade, also is a damage type that ignores the armor of most enemies. However, even though a damage type may ignore armor, it can also have a damage multiplier against specific enemies. For Armor Piercing, it deals 1.5x to medium Grineer and 0.5x to light Infested. Serrated Blade deals 1.5x to Crawlers, and 3x to other light Infested.

tl;dr We should change the terminology we use because it's misleading. See my topic.

    • OMFG You are stupid!

Treat Armor Piercing like a elemental mod! Fire is infested, electric is for Copus, and AP is for Grineer! ...GOSH

    • Take it easy.

This is a friendly place, lets try to keep it like that please.
