I must say in terms of equality between pay-player and non-pay-player it is a good idea, but I personally preferred it with boni since it alllowed further customizing towards your playstyle.

I honestly prefer the helms to not have bonuses. I don't like that I have to decide which vanity item I want to use because of stats, especially when you consider that in some cases the stats given by a helm are equal to basically having a free mod equipped.
It's a PvE game , what is this equality you talk about , nobody gives a fuck if somebody is stronger just because he made a helmet , you went on a mission for it and you gave resources for it , why not be stronger because of it.
I'm all for alt helmets without the stats, just make the stats a seperate item so we can have style and and optimal build. Trinity's Aura helmet just gets in the way when you have your back to the wall. :(
I like youre idae for a seperate "chassis-stat" slot, but I don't think this wil work out.
To the other guy I must say you must be - frankly said - quite foolish. Even accounting in that it is a PvE game balance between payers and non-payers is something important imho.
Also since introduction of the Conclave it isnt purely PvE.
And last but not least:
