• While i think it's impractical to import the new video demonstrations of Abilities as shown when hovering over them in game (some of them, but DE will continue to add more) it would be however advantageous if the best showcase of the ability is screenshotted from said video to be used as the new image. This would be something done by the Admins here most likely, or at least coordinated by them, to pick and choose between which part of each ability video should be used for the wiki.

I suggest this because as the in game UI changes, so should our references, and currently a handful of ability pages like Spectrorage (to name just one) is now outdated as it no longer shows MOAs, but Tusk Lancers in a darkened plains of eidolon.

As an example of what i am talking about this is what the new Spectrorage page would look like (partial):

    SpectrorageNew GaraSpectrorage
Trap enemies in a carousel of mirrors, forcing them to attack visions of their true selves. Destroyed mirrors damage their attackers, as does the collapse of the carousel.
    Strength:500 / 600 / 700 / 800 (mirror damage)
    800 / 1000 / 1200 / 1500 (collapse damage)
    Duration:10 / 14 / 18 / 22 s
    Range:4 / 6 / 8 / 12 (number of mirrors)
    2 / 3 / 4 / 6 (collapse threshold)
    4 m (charm radius)
    Misc:100 m (cast range)
    50% (absorbed damage per mirror)

    • We (over on the Discord) talked about this a little while ago. One idea was to use gifs, but trying to get each of the little videos for every ability and converting them into gifs would be very tedious and hard. Not to mention the potential page load times resulting from them.

So ideally we'd like to keep all the ability pics we have now since they're official and high quality. Whether or not DE will switch to the video format for future frames on their website is unknown though. Until then (Wisp's release) we decided just to have things stay as they are.

As for your screenshot idea: I don't think it's a bad one. Many images on the wiki are just screenshots with some PS touch ups here and there. However, the problems I see is that we would need to go through each and every video and decide what frame we want to capture. Also, because the ingame videos are somewhat small the resulting screenshot will be below normal wiki quality (as seen in your Spectrorage example), as well as having what looks like an odd aspect ratio. But, if push comes to shove and we're not able to keep the current ability images I'd say the screenshot method is a decent backup plan.

Btw, if you want to get rid of that Maximization text replace

       |cardonly = {{{1|}}}

      with something like

       |cardonly = yes

    • Gifs are a bad idea, i'm not suggesting that. Take up way too much bandwidth having those things around on the ability page, i was suggesting static images.

    • If anybody has a solution to only make gifs load when interacted with (mouse over, click, etc.), that would be such a useful solution to the wiki on many pages. I've been trying to find a solution to this for years and nothing has come up.

    • There may be a gif video format that may act as a video but i'm not sure.
