My friends and I starting playing this game a few weeks ago, and we're having a blast! Currently I'm on Mars and am trying to unlock the junction to Phobos. The only requirement I have left is to scan two more Cephalon fragments, but they're proving to be elusive. I have the Thief mod installed (unfortunately it's the damaged version, and it's capped out at 3 ranks) and plan on repeatedly doing one of the exterminate missions until I find them. As far as I know they appear randomly on the map (and I'm not even sure they spawn all the time, or just have a chance to spawn). Are there any tips you can give me to track them down?
They spawn on every mission other than defence or interception. Thief's wit and other loot radar mods to help with finding it a lot. Also, once you learn the tiles, you can predict where they will be - which also helps later in the game when you hunt for syndicate medallions which spawn in the same places.
Thanks for the reply guys/gals. Turns out I hadn't actually equipped Thief's Wit like I thought I had. Did a few missions and finally got the remaining fragments. Now I can finally move on to the rest of the Solar System!
Recommending running capture missions with the Aura Mod: Loot Radar, Exilus Mod: Thief's Wit, and Sentinel Mod: Animal Instinct. You'll see the blue icon appear on the map (preferrably have the map large over the corner minimap).
Capture missions are easy to run through, objective wise. And you'll find a fragment 95% of your time on the way to the exit.
Such a stupid requirement for advancing. Bad luck keeps you hopelessly exploring the same boring crap mission after mission just to find these. They should really replace it with something else or make it a single scan if they really want players to learn this mechanic that bad.
what if we dont have any of those mods?
If you don't have those mods, wait for alerts that drop Loot Radar and Animal Instinct or just farm for Thief's Wit, it's a common drop from a Shield Lancer and Sergeant, who we can practically consider a regular enemy for now.
That's new, i have seen up to 10 so far, dont seem to be from structure or obj, but then again may be cracked by squad mates. Ara is a good place not due to drop rate but due to mission nature, and the society at large targets Ara a good place, thus easy to find existing squad to join
