Seek the Signal is a hidden page on the official Warframe website, serving as a part of the Augmented Reality Game teaser for the Warframe: 1999 update.
The page first appeared on October 22nd, 2024, and was updated on November 15, 2024.
Accessing the Page[]
The page can be accessed by entering its address directly or by accessing 1999's official update page, scrolling down to the "Featured Pages" section and clicking on the "doktorentrati.com" thumbnail.
Prior to Update 38's release on December 13, 2024 it could also be accessed through the home page of the official Warframe site by clicking on the game's logo in the top left corner or on the main page view as soon as it changed its appearance to the "glitched" icon (the Lidless Eye symbol).
Seek The Signal has two versions, depending on whether the user is logged into a Warframe account while accessing the page:
- For logged-out users, it will display two button prompts: "Log In" and "Begin". "Log In" will redirect the user to the standard login page, then back to Seek The Signal. "Begin" will redirect the user to Suspicious Correspondence ARG page.
- For logged-in users, the "Log In" button will be replaced with new prompt: "End". Depending on specific actions performed by the user in-game (prior to update's release) or on the official 1999 promotional site (after update release) and in the Suspicious Correspondence ARG, the button will be greyed out and inactive, or black and active. Clicking on the active button will redirect the user to the Spread The Signal ARG page.
Enabling the "End" button - lead-up to Update 38.0[]
This section of the article has been obsoleted due to removal of the preview/event version of Höllvania Central Mall shortly before the release of Update 38 and subsequent changes to ARG's structure.
Enabling the "End" button - post-Update 38.0[]
The user must complete Suspicious Correspondence ARG up to the point of unlocking the last file - 06_Contact.kin - and triggering of the "dead drop" on the City Wide Metro ARG page. After entering the Metro page and interacting with the mobile phone on the left seat, the user must head to the 1999 promo page and scroll down to the "Featured Pages" section at the bottom.
An interactive object in the form of a hanging landline phone playing a call failure tone will be attached to the frame of the bottom-right thumbnail ("doktorentrati.com") - clicking on it will hang up the phone and enable the next part of the puzzle.
The user must then access the Suspicious Correspondence site, activate Bandbooster.app from the bottom toolbar (click on the icon with a long rectangle and a branching symbol) and click "Connect". After a moment of waiting ("Dialing... attempting to connect"), the app will display the following message:
Note: it is recommended to keep the browser tab/window with Suspicious Correspondence active while Bandbooster.app is "connecting" - if the site switches to screensaver mode, connection process will automatically fail and require a new attempt.
After returning to the main page of the ARG, the "End" button will become active, allowing access to Spread The Signal.
Spread The Signal[]
Upon entering the main site of the ARG, the user is presented with a number of CRT monitors displaying a message from a mysterious sender, several repeats of the quotes "SPREAD THE SIGNAL" and "THE SIGNAL MUST BE SPREAD", a glitched "Compiling..." progress bar, as well as a number of hand-drawn images.
The images include:
- A six-sided die displaying numbers 3 (top), 6 (front) and 5 (side)
- A coffin with "RIP" written on its lid
- A six-armed snowflake
- An acoustic guitar
- An ant
- A devil-like mascot character
One of the monitors displays a monochrome desktop screen - clicking it will redirect the user to the Suspicious Correspondence ARG website.
Input Genetic Sequence[]
One of the monitors on the site contains six ports which are used to input six different genetic sequences, as well as a <SUBMIT> button below the ports.
Going from left to right and top to bottom, the sequences are as follows:
Succesfully entering all six sequences will play a success jingle and display the following message:
Attached to the message is a promo code: "TH3GR8D3SP41R". Entering it on Warframe's promo code redeem page will gift the user with an in-game item: On-Lyne Poster Orbiter decoration.
After entering the correct sequences, one of the larger CRT screens with the "Compiling..." message will change it to read "COUNTDOWN" and display a clock counting down to November 29th 2024, 2PM ET - date and time of then-upcoming Devstream #183. All smaller screens will also change to images of the Lidless Eye.
Pressing the button after entering an incorrect or incomplete sequence, or no sequence at all will play an error sound and make no changes to the page's contents.
Post-Devstream #183[]
After the airing of Devstream #183 on November 29th 2024, the site was further changed. The puzzle was reverted to its initial state (empty "Input Genetic Sequence" fields, hand-drawn images displaying on smaller CRTs) even if the user had successfully entered the genetic sequences before.
Note: All six input fields support copy-paste prompts/key combinations - genetic sequences do not need to be entered manually each time if the puzzle resets.
Submitting correct genetic sequences now causes the Countdown screen to display a functional "Compiling..." progress bar - once it reaches 100%, a button labeled "DEPLOY ANTIVIRUS" will appear. Clicking the button directs the user to a YouTube video - an official song release of the "newest" On-lyne single titled "THE GREAT DESPAIR".
After returning to the Seek the Signal page, the button will change to a glitched version, with the label now reading "THANKS KIDDO". Clicking the button again will play a soundbyte consisting of strange noise and a child's sinister laughter, then change all CRTs on the page to display either a low-resolution monochrome image of Man in the Wall's face or the message "THANKS KIDDO".
Note: Audio volume on the soundbyte is relatively high and can catch some users off-guard - it is advised to lower the playback device's volume, mute the site by clicking the loudspeaker icon in the bottom right corner of the page or mute the browser tab/window before clicking the button.
Trivia[]
- Similar to the Lidless Eye symbol present on the main Doktor Entrati site, the eyes displayed on Spread The Signal ARG page track the mouse cursor movement in browser window. Not moving the cursor for a few seconds or placing it outside of the browser window will cause the eyes to eventually reset their position to the default "looking up" appearance.
- "Compiling..." progress bar displayed before inputting the genetic sequences randomly cycles between different percentage values and "estimated completion" times, ranging from seconds to hours, days, months or years, with the value going as far as thousands of years.
- The "DEPLOY ANTIVIRUS" button displayed post-Devstream #183 may be a reference to the planned Antivirus Threshold mechanic of Technocyte Coda, which replaces the Requiem Mods used by Kuva Liches and Sisters of Parvos with specialized Antivirus Mods. [to be verified after Technocyte Coda update in 2025]
- In recognition of the players' efforts to solve the ARG (as confirmed by a news entry on the official webpage), Dark Sector (a third-person shooter developed by Digital Extremes in 2008, often considered to be a "precursor" to Warframe and 1999) could be claimed for free on Steam between November 27th 2024, 9AM PT and November 30th 2024, 9AM PT. The game's store page was edited to include the following message:
