“You're not supposed to be in here! You're going to ruin the surprise!”
The following article/section contains spoilers.

To face a growing threat, a long dormant Cephalon calls on you to reconstruct an Orokin-era interceptor craft: the Railjack.
—Quest Description

Rising Tide is a main Quest, released in Update 26.1 (2019-11-22). In preperation for the Sentient threat, the Tenno collect the parts they need to construct a Railjack, an Orokin warship dating back to the Old War.

Synopsis[]

With Sentient anomalies appearing in the Veil Proxima, the player reconstructs Cephalon Cy, an Orokin-era Cephalon that fought in The Old War. While searching throughout the Origin System for the missing parts of an ancient Orokin warship, the Railjack, Cy suffers traumatic flashbacks to his original crew, who perished during the Old War while attempting to behead a Sentient fleet. After desperately searching for a viable Cephalon to commandeer the Railjack, Cy realizes there is no one with his expertise or experience that could spearhead the Tenno's space crew in combat against their ancient enemy. With the Railjack repaired, the Tenno arm themselves to face the Sentient threat in the Veil Proxima.

“You're not supposed to be in here! You're going to ruin the surprise!”
The following article/section contains spoilers. Please finish the quest before proceeding.

In order to access this quest, the player must have first completed The Second Dream quest. They will receive a Railjack Cephalon blueprint which must be built in their Foundry.

After receiving the Railjack Cephalon, the player will receive an inbox message from the Cephalon, who introduces himself as Cephalon Cy, requesting to be taken to a Dry Dock to be fully activated. The quest can then be initiated in the Codex.

Install Cephalon Cy in the Dry Dock[]

Players must head to a Dry Dock, which can be built in a Clan Dojo or visited in Tier 2 or 3 Relays (Saturn or Pluto).

Upon installing Cephalon Cy in the Dry Dock's central terminal, he will explain the importance of the Railjack in combating the Sentients.

Recover the Railjack's Fuselage: Ares, Mars[]

Enemy Level: 20 - 25

The player's first mission for Cephalon Cy is retrieving a derelict Railjack Fuselage on Mars, where it is guarded by a contingent of Grineer. Players must plant a scanning beacon on the wreckage, which will trigger a mission to defend the wreckage as Cephalon Cy scans it. A white circular radius will indicate the defense area, and players must stay within the area while preventing enemies from stepping within it. Scanning progress will halt if either of these conditions are not met.

During the scan a pair of Vomvalyst Interference Drones will show up at 90% scan progress. Scan progress will stall so long as the Drones are alive, even if they are not within the defense area, requiring that players kill them to resume.

Once the scan is complete, players can head to extraction to finish the mission, which will reward a Fuselage component. With the Fuselage component in hand, players must head back to either their Clan's or a Tier 2-3 Relay's Dry Dock to install the Fuselage, which will materialize the Railjack's incomplete main hull inside the Dry Dock.

Repair the Railjack Fuselage in the Dry Dock[]

In order to complete the repairs to the Fuselage, the player must collect various resources that can be found throughout the Origin System that will be used for the repairs. The following lists the resources needed to initiate repairs:

The Cubic Diodes are a resource that can be dropped by any Eximus units located on the Corpus Ice Planet Tileset, which primarily appears on Europa.

Players can deposit any of the required resources they have at hand on the central Dry Dock console similar to depositing resources for Clan Research. Once all the required resources have been deposited, Cephalon Cy will initiate repairs on the Fuselage, which will require 1 real-time minute to complete. This repair process cannot be rushed by the player.

Recover the Railjack Propulsion System: Cervantes, Earth[]

Enemy level: 25-35

After the Fuselage is complete, Cephalon Cy will send an inbox message directing them to a Propulsion System on another derelict Railjack, this time on Earth. Just as before, it is guarded by Grineer enemies. The player must scan the wreckage and defend it from incoming Grineer trying to interrupt the process.

During the scan, two waves of Interference Drones will appear, one at 40% and the other at 60%.

Once the scan is complete, players can head to extraction to finish the mission and acquire the Propulsion component. It must be installed via Dry Dock to progress the quest.

Repair the Railjack Propulsion System in the Dry Dock[]

Once more, the player must collect various resources to repair the engine. The following resources are needed:

Carbides are a resource dropped by Eximus units located on the Grineer Shipyard Tileset, which primarily appears on Ceres.

Recover the Port Nacelle: Plato, Lua[]

Enemy level: 25-35

The next section of the Railjack can be found on Lua, where the wreck is now guarded by a contingent of Corpus. Interference Drones will appear at 30%, 60%, and 90% scan progress, and Sentient Conculysts and Battalysts can appear to interrupt the scan.

Recover the Starboard Nacelle: Tessera, Venus[]

Enemy level: 25-35

The other Railjack Nacelle is located on Venus, with defense conditions being similar to the previous recovery mission against Corpus and Sentient enemies. This time, more Interference Drones will appear per wave, with up to 4 drones appearing on the last wave at 90%.

Integration[]

The Railjack will be completed upon finishing repairs on the Engine Cowling, at which point Cephalon Cy resolves himself to become the Railjack's Cephalon with the Tenno's permission. Players must interact with the central Dry Dock console and confirm Cephalon Cy's integration into the Railjack, which concludes the quest.

Players can enter the completed Railjack and inspect its interior. The Railjack will also appear above the Orbiter, and can be entered from there through its bottom deck, in the middle between the three rooms.

Railjack Key Mission[]

This section is technically not part of the Rising Tide quest itself, but is included here for the sake of brevity.

Upon boarding the completed Railjack, Cephalon Cy informs the Tenno that the ship is lacking a power source. Interacting with the Reliquary Drive in the second level midsection of the ship prompts "Investigate Coordinates On Lua?" This triggers a simple snatch-and-grab mission to collect a Void Key on Lua and extract, avoiding the Corrupted and Sentient enemies along the way.

With the Void Key recovered, the Tenno inserts it into the Reliquary Drive, making the Railjack fully operational. The object inside the Reliquary bumps on the glass, revealing what appears to be a giant finger; if the player has completed Chains of Harrow, they will see The Man in the Wall sitting on top of the drive waving, with their index finger missing. The player is now finally ready to embark on Empyrean missions through the Railjack's navigation console.

Notes[]

  • A fully built Railjack can be purchased for Platinum64 400 from the Market. Obtaining the Railjack this way will completely bypass the quest and mark it as completed.
  • Unlike the Vomvalysts found in the Plains of Eidolon, the Interference Drones will not enter their "energy form" and thus can be killed with normal weapons and abilities.

Tips[]

Patch History[]

Hotfix 36.1.5 (2024-09-03)

  • Fixed being unable to enter the Railjack after installing Cephalon Cy during the Rising Tides Quest.

Update 36.0 (2024-06-18)

  • Fixed “Build Railjack Cephalon in Foundry” appearing in the list of requirements to begin The Rising Tide Quest in the Codex.
    • This implied that you needed to build the Cephalon before beginning the Quest when in reality that takes place during the Quest - ultimately very confusing so we’ve removed that line entirely!

Hotfix 35.5.1 (2024-03-27)

  • Fixed being unable to progress in the Rising Tide Quest if attempting to repair Railjack without being in a Clan (which was an old requirement from back in the day that snuck back in somehow!).

Update 35.5 (2024-03-27)

Quest Changes

Quest Blueprint Build Times:

We reduced the following Quest-related blueprint crafting time to 10 seconds, and updated the Rush Cost to be 0 Platinum:

  • Railjack Cephalon (Rising Tide)

Hotfix 35.1.2 (2024-02-28)

  • Fixed the Railjack Cephalon Blueprint still being available for purchase in the in-game Market.
    • Since the Whispers in the Walls Update, the Blueprint is now sent via Inbox message after starting the Rising Tide Quest from the Codex - so there is no longer a need for it to still appear in the Market.

Hotfix 35.0.3 (2023-12-18)

  • Fixed being unable to progress in the Rising Tide Quest after purchasing the New War Firepower Pack or a Railjack from the in-game Market before the “Inspect the Reliquary Drive” stage.

Update 35.0 (2023-12-13)

MAIN QUEST PATH RESTRUCTURING

The story that has guided players throughout their journey in Warframe has evolved throughout the years -- to put it lightly. Quests lead players to meet the fantastic cast of characters spread throughout the Origin System, but also introduce them to various mechanics that enhance and deepen their gameplay experience. With that said, we have restructured our Quest Path to ensure that players meet the vital NPCs and are set up for success to take on The New War.

Quests added to the Main Quest Path

  • Rising Tide
RISING TIDE QUEST IMPROVEMENTS

While Rising Tide has seen improvements over the years with the goal of reducing the overall grind, we have still heard complaints from the community about its overall difficulty for less experienced players. Since this Quest is now a required part of the Main Quest Path, we have made some adjustments to ensure it matches the expected player progression between The Second Dream and The War Within.

Starting the Quest
Players will no longer need to purchase the Railjack Cephalon Blueprint from the Market to trigger this Quest. Now, once The Second Dream is complete, players will be able to start Rising Tide in their Codex. Upon doing so, the Railjack Cephalon Blueprint will be delivered to them directly via an Inbox Message.

Quest Mission Changes:
These changes apply to all Rising Tide recovery missions with the goal of reducing overall difficulty for players.

  • Removed solo-only requirement for these missions to allow players to squad up with a friend or matchmake with fellow Tenno.
  • Reduced the spawn rate of enemies by half, and added a random stagger to spawn frequency so that players were not dealing with large waves of enemies at once.
  • Slightly reduced the scanning beacon objective radius to make defending it easier.
  • Enemies within the radius of the scanning beacon will now be marked with a red waypoint to help players identify who to target.
  • Reduced the frequency of Cephalon Cy’s voice lines when the scanner perimeter is breached.

Update 34.0 (2023-10-18)

Quest Improvements

Misc. Quest Changes:

  • Rising Tide: Reduced the Railjack Cephalon Blueprint build time from 10 mins to 1 min.

Hotfix 30.9.4 (2021-11-16)

  • Fixes toward Repair/Craft time for Railjack modules during the Rising Tide quest being incorrect
    • The intended change to a 1 minute craft time was part of Update 30.9.0 but due to an error it was still 1 hour. As of this Hotfix, the actual repair time is about 90 seconds instead of 1 minute, which confuses the UI... work is ongoing!

Update 30.9 (2021-11-11)

Reduced Crafting Times for the Rising Tide Quest

In March 2021, we made Railjack more accessible by reducing the crafting resources and the time it took to build your Railjack. Now, we will be reducing the crafting times again from 1 hour to 1 minute per part. As Railjack becomes a larger part of the game, we hope this change will allow new players to swiftly complete Rising Tide, and prepare their Railjack for future fights!

Update 30.3 (2021-05-25)

  • Changed the Eris and Pluto Relays in the list of marked Relays in the Rising Tide Quest to the Saturn Relay if you aren’t in a Clan.

Hotfix 30.2.2 (2021-05-13)

  • Removed Cephalon Cy Research from Clans and moved Blueprint to the in-game Market for Credits.

Hotfix 30.0.8 (2021-04-27)

  • Fixed being unable to complete the ‘Install Cephalon Cy’ stage of the Rising Tide Quest if you had played a Railjack mission hosted by someone who already owns a Railjack.

Hotfix 29.10.1 (2021-03-19)

  • Fixed Rising Tide progression stopper where the Quest failed due to new auto-complete Rising Tides Quest when Railjack is received.

Update 29.10 (2021-03-19)
More Accessible:

First thing’s first: if you have yet to build your Railjack as part of the Rising Tide Quest, the cost of ship components and the time it takes for each one to build has been dramatically reduced (the difference in cost will be part of our early adopter compensation below). Simply put: less Grind.

If you’d rather just jump straight into the action, a fully built Railjack will also be available through the in-game Market for Platinum in the new Railjack category (must have an Archwing to purchase). The Rising Tide Quest will automatically be completed if a Railjack is purchased from the in-game Market - you can replay the Quest at any time in the Codex! Maybe you’ve noticed a pattern - when we released Necramechs, we didn’t sell them for Platinum at launch either. Their Market appearance came many months later with Orphix Venom. It’s almost paradoxical that as a Free to Play game we don’t put these new items in the Market. There really isn’t a good reason, either, and players really have made it clear they’d like the option to buy new items with Platinum -- whether bought or traded. And now the option is there.

For those who prefer the free path, they can enjoy a shorter wait and less Resources to build their own Railjack!

Fixes:
  • Fixed script error when logging out while the Rising Tide Quest is active.

Update 27.2 (2020-03-05)

Railjack Onboarding Changes:

The Rising Tide Quest gives you your very own Railjack, but the barrier to entry is - conclusively with months of stats - too high. We are releasing a revised series of Blueprints (BP) in the Quest that sees costs reduced between 66% - 75% for Railjack parts, and building time reduced to 6 hours each.

There are 3 situations players may find themselves in:

  1. Haven’t started Rising Tide. Anyone just beginning will have fully new reduced BP costs.
  2. Has started Rising Tide. Anyone with any progress at all gets 1x Rush Repair Drone, and will transition to new costs on the next Stage. Any old costs will be refunded.
  3. Rising Tide Complete. Anyone with a complete quest gets 2x Rush Repair Drone. All cost differences will be refunded.

WHY:
Upon Review, stats show truly the only people that saw Rising Tide to completion were our veterans, which was originally our intent to design content for veteran players. However, to sustain the cost of future development and events like Scarlet Spear, accessibility is key and we have to adjust the barriers to entry for Railjack. For those who were early adopters, 2x Rush Repair Drones will be given out. Anyone with the Rising Tide Quest active will receive 1x Rush Repair Drone. For those unfamiliar with Rush Repair Drones: these items can only be acquired via rare drop in the Veil Proxima, as they allow you to instantly complete a given Armament or Component.

Update 26.1 (2019-11-22)

  • Introduced.
  1. Prelude to War is a compilation of miniquests and cutscenes leading up to The New War.
  2. While not part of the main story quest, The Duviri Paradox has very interlinked story context to several critical characters in The New War.
