Tear and chew through enemies with this unusual crankshaft-style greatsword.
There remains a shallow trench through the ruins. As if some colossal boulder had crashed from the manse and rolled down the hill... but what if it had rolled... up? Imagine if you will, Karishh's Dax on the day... peering out, dumbstruck by what they saw. They readied no blade, sounded no alarm as the expanding orb of gristle hurtled toward them. And then in a spasm of giblets, Grendel was before them. His 'cutlery' in hand.. the Masseter.

The Masseter is GrendelIcon272 Grendel's signature greatsword with a distinctive crankshaft-shaped blade. In addition to grinding its foes into chunks with every swing, Grendel becomes unshakable when he readies a heavy attack.

Notes[]

  • When wielded by GrendelIcon272 Grendel, he is immune to crowd control procs during Heavy Attacks.
  • Has a uniquely large slam radius compared to other weapons of the same class.

Trivia[]

  • The masseter muscle is one of four muscles responsible for chewing.
  • Keeping with GrendelIcon272 Grendel's design being inspired by Oni, the Masseter's design is based on the Kanabō, a studded, two-handed club used by samurai. The cumbersome nature of the kanabō resulted in the weapon being associated with oni due to their great strength.
    • The close associations between oni and kanabō in Japanese culture have resulted in the phrase oni-ni-kanabō (鬼に金棒, "[giving a] kanabō to oni") to describe giving further advantages to a powerful opponent, which may be the basis for Grendel's immunity to crowd control effects while preparing a heavy attack with the Masseter.
  • When the Masseter is used to perform an attack, the blade's rotation will ramp up for a short period of time and eventually slow back to idle speed.
    • Manually guarding will lock the Masseter's blade in place until guarding is released, regardless of current speed.
