Warframe Guides

See Category:Limbo Guides to read user-made guides on how to play this Warframe.

Mechanics

Main article: Rift Plane
  • Units can only damage other units if they are both in the same dimensional plane. Units on different planes cannot damage or be damaged by each other, nor be affected by knockdown, stagger, and Status Effect procs.
  • Players in the Rift Plane regenerate Energy at a rate of 2 units per second and can carry mission items such as Datamasses or Power Cells, but cannot get Pickups (unless they are within a Cataclysm).
  • The very act of moving between planes is violent, causing enemies to take 300 Impact b Impact damage upon entering and upon exiting the Rift Plane, regardless of what ability put them there. This damage is in addition to the damage caused by Limbo's abilities, and is not affected by Ability Strength. Warframes and allied units do not take this damage.

Lore

Main article: The Limbo Theorem

Excellent, the final Theorem and itssic unfragmented. Processing. Oh. Wait, Limbo, no that's a mistake, you don't want to go there. It's too big a jump. You can't rift walk... ohh. Oh no. Operator, I think I know why we're finding Limbo parts scattered throughout the system. His final rift walk was a miscalc... --disaster.-- Well, perhaps when you occupy this frame, you will use more... caution.

Ordis at the end of the quest

LimboIcon272 Limbo's component blueprints were discovered by the player during the The Limbo Theorem quest, scattered across the Origin System as a result of the Warframe's miscalculations when crossing between the normal plane and the Void.

Tips

See Rift Plane for more detailed information on the following tips

  • Limbo's abilities give him great survivability, making him a good solo frame. He can become invulnerable to every enemy except the ones he chooses, and being in the Rift Plane grants a consistent source of energy.
  • Limbo can use a single Banish to give a Warframe Energy Regeneration, Invulnerability and with Mod TT 20pxRift Haven Health Regeneration for only 25 base Energy, making Limbo a very useful support Warframe.
  • In Defense, Mobile Defense and Excavation missions, Limbo can use Cataclysm to transport the defending Warframes and the mission object to the Rift Plane, making it and the Warframes invulnerable to all enemies outside of the Cataclysm. This works especially well against strong ranged enemies.
  • In Spy Missions, being in the Rift Plane will not trigger alarms when passing through Laser Barriers, making some Data Vaults extremely easy.
    • Enemies, Cameras, and Sensor Regulators can still detect you while in the Rift Plane.
    • Using Banish on a Loki with Invisibility active can let them have free mobility through Data Vaults, as Loki will be undetectable by Cameras, Regulators, Enemies, and Laser Barriers.
    • When raiding a Spy mission alone, using a Huras Kubrow or Shade Sentinel to hide from enemies will make Limbo invisible and untouchable, thus he can simply ignore all barriers, enemies and other countermeasures in the vaults all by himself.
  • In Rescue Missions, Limbo's abilities may prove useful:
    • Once freed, Banishing a rescue target keeps them perfectly safe, for the duration.
    • On the Infested Ship tileset, Limbo can walk through the detection lasers while in the Rift Plane without triggering an execution.
  • Likewise, Banishing the operative in Defense missions in Sorties and Arbitrations can provide them extra safety.
  • While most enemy attacks cannot interact between planes, there are notable exceptions, such as the security eye of the Cunning Test. On the other hand, most Warframe abilities can cross planes with no issues. Learning which attacks and abilities can cross the Rift Plane may be worth memorizing.
  • Cataclysm and Banish does not affect the Operator, which allows them to interact with items outside of the Rift Plane.

Trivia

  • Limbo is the second Warframe who sells for Credits6425,000, rather than the standard Credits6410,000, the first being Loki PrimeIcon272 Loki Prime.
  • Limbo is the first Warframe who has a body part that can detach from its body while in a mission, in this case the upper portion of his base helmet (and by extension, his alternate helmets) that resembles and functions like a top hat.
  • Limbo's physical appearance, emulating a top hat and coat, evokes the appearance of a stage magician.
    • Alternatively, Limbo appears to have many similarities to Baron Samedi, a Loa of Haitian Vodou. Baron Samedi is depicted wearing a top hat and dinner jacket, and spends most of his time in another realm/plane. He is tasked with deciding whether or not someone will die and be accepted into the realm of the dead, typically by digging the grave of someone destined to die.
  • Limbo is currently the tallest Warframe in the game when including his top hat, even surpassing ChromaIcon272 Chroma in height.
  • According to his associated questline, the original Limbo Warframe that the player obtains information about (and subsequent blueprints from the data) died while crossing into the rift plane, scattering his components across the Origin System. Ordis insists the player be more careful as to not repeat the same mistake.
  • Limbo is the first Warframe to have unique rolling animations, propelling himself forward while slipping into and out of the Rift Plane.
    • When performing a back-spring, Limbo will reach up and quickly remove the unique module of his currently equipped helmet, "tipping" his "hat" whilst sliding backward.
  • Limbo is the second quest-driven Warframe that has a Prime variant, after MirageIcon272 Mirage.

Bugs

  • Limbo's hat may be displaced on his head after casting abilities.
  • The displaying of Banish's icon on allies does not occur when allies walk into Portals generated by Limbo's Passive. This can make it very confusing to tell which of your allies, if any, are currently in the rift. in case of doubt, enter the rift and cast banish on your allies, this will make the issue irrelevant.

Passive

Main article: Rift Plane

LimboIcon272 Limbo has access to the Rift plane, an alternate dimension to the normal environment, or material plane. By performing a Roll (default Shift ), a Sidespring (A  or D  + Shift ), or a Backspring (RMB  + S  + Shift ), Limbo slides into and out of the Rift plane at will. Several of Limbo's abilities impose the Rift upon the world around him, affecting himself, the environment, enemies, and even allies.

  • Limbo can remain indefinitely in either dimension, until he performs the triggering maneuvers again or travels freely between both planes via Cataclysm130xDark Cataclysm.
    • Rift Walk also affects Limbo's Companion which will walk the same dimensional plane as its owner, unless it crosses planes via Cataclysm.
    • Beware that coming into contact with a Nullifier bubble will forcefully bring Limbo back to the material plane.
  • When sliding into the Rift plane, Limbo leaves a portal in his wake that lasts 5 seconds. Ally players can touch the portal to enter the Rift for 15 seconds, after which they will return to the material plane.
    • Allies can perform the trigger maneuvers to return to the material plane sooner.
    • Limbo himself can use the portal to enter the Rift with no time limit.
  • Additionally, while Limbo and enemies are inside the Rift, each Rift-bound enemy killed grants him 10 energy.
  • If Limbo is in the Rift plane, he can still damage enemies outside of it if they are ragdolled.
    • Damaging enemies in the Rift plane while being in the material plane is also possible as long as the enemies are ragdolled.

Hotfix 27.3.15
  • Fixed an issue where an Eidolon Wail could hit players in Limbo’s Rift after a Host migration.

Hotfix 27.3.14

  • Fixed a script error with Limbo's Rift Torrent Augment that could occur if Rift Surge was cast after a Railjack warp.

Hotfix 27.3.11

  • Fixed non-Sentient/Amalgam enemies being affected by diminishing returns when affected by Limbo’s Stasis. This specifically applies to enemies in the Index.

Hotfix 27.3.10

  • Fixed inability to destroy the Aerolyst’s canisters if you were attacking in Limbo’s Rift.

Hotfix 27.3.8

  • Limbo’s Stasis duration now has diminishing returns on Sentients and Amalgams when the power is used repeatedly. This choice was made for 2 main reasons:
    • 1) Limbo’s Stasis usage makes the gameplay of the Scarlet Spear far too trivial.
    • 2) Sentients by design have Adaptation - and the diminishing returns on recasting adheres to the adaptive nature of the enemy.
    • This is not intended to change the way Stasis interacts with other enemy factions.

Update 27.2

  • Armor Change:
    • Limbo: 65 to 100
    • Limbo Prime: 85 to 125
    • Why: The conversation surrounding Arcane Guardian led to a significant review of Armor stats on Warfarmes. The Majority of Warframes received an increase in the Armor stat to increase survivability. Compounded with Shield Gating and the numerous other changes covered, we expect a much more fair feeling playing field for all Warframes.

Hotfix 27.0.12

  • Limbo ability videos have been added to his Arsenal!

Update 25.7

Update 25.5

  • Fixed misaligned Vetala Ankle Plate when equipped on Limbo Prime.

Hotfix 25.3.2

  • Fixed Growing Power buff not removing itself properly when casting Limbo’s Cataclysm, resulting in an indefinite stacking of Strength.

Hotfix 25.1.1

  • Fixed most Auras not reacting to changes in Rift-Status:
    • Banishing an Eximus enemy will remove its Aura from enemies out of the Rift, eg: if you Banish a Venomous Eximus and stay out of the Rift it won't be able to hit you with its Toxin Aura, or if you Banish an Ancient Healer it won't be able to protect its allies left behind.
      • Note this does not apply to the Corrosive Projection, Shield Disruption and EMP Auras.

Update 25.1

  • Fixed enemies spawning being uneffected by Corrosive Projection, Shield Disruption and EMP Auras worn by players in the Rift at the time.
  • Fixed one of the Gas City doors with security scanners detecting players even if they were in Limbo’s Rift.

Update 25.0

  • Cephalon Simaris now sells Blueprints given during quests in his Offerings! This allows you to purchase these items in the event that you’ve accidentally sold them.

Hotfix 24.7.3

  • Tweaks to bring Limbo’s Rift FX to a happy medium between different levels of environment exposure.

Hotfix 24.7.2

  • Fixes towards visibility issues when in Limbo’s Rift.

Update 24.6

  • Limbo's Banish ability timer will now immediately expire if all Banished enemies are killed before the timer counts down.

Update 24.4

  • Changed Limbo’s Stasis to no longer affect temporarily friendly enemies (Nyx’s Mind Control, Revenant’s Enthrall).

Hotfix 23.0.3

Hotfix 23.0.2

  • Fixed Rollers not being affected by Limbo's Cataclysm (or Stasis) if they are already within the zone when its cast.

Update 23.0

LIMBO STASIS CHANGES!

Limbo's Stasis has been changed to make it more cooperative! Now, Stasis only stops time for Enemies. Limbo's Gear and all Ally Gear will continue to function. But, because complete time-halting for enemies within the Rift is akin to godly power, the duration of the ability has been shortened overall - from base 30 seconds to 15 seconds. This is of course affected by Mods.

Hotfix 20.0.7

  • Removed 'damage' and reworded the description of Limbos Rift Surge to better describe the mechanic.
  • Fixed Limbo’s ‘Haven’ Banish Augment not healing allies as intended.
  • Fixed Limbo being able to briefly use objects while inside Cataclysm by dashing and pressing the context action.
  • Fixed the Caustacyst’s Corrosive acid projectiles not pausing in Limbo’s Stasis.

Limbo Revisited

  • Passive: While in the Rift, Limbo receives a slight Energy regeneration. Additionally, enemies killed in the Rift will grant Limbo 10 Energy.
  • Rift Walk: Movement Activated Ability:
    • Tapping the roll key (default binding Shift) will shift Limbo between the Rift and Material Plane at no Energy cost.
    • Shifting into the Rift leaves behind a tear that, for a brief period of time (5s), allows Allies to enter the Rift. Limbos that enter the Rift through the tear can remain in the Rift as long as they please, unlike Allies who have temporary access.
  • 1: Banish:
    • Send enemies and Allies within a small radius into or out of the Rift for a period of time.
    • Banish targets must be in the same Plane as Limbo to be affected.
    • Banished enemies will take damage when casted and will be knocked down for a brief period of time.
  • 2. Stasis:
    • Stop Banished enemies in their tracks by putting them in Stasis for a period time.
    • Toggle the ability on and move within the Rift to strategically set up shots around enemies affected by Stasis.
    • Projectiles will stay suspended until the Stasis timer runs out, until toggled off, or until the 300 projectile limit has been reached, upon which your torrent of projectiles will be launched at the enemy.
  • 3. Rift Surge:
    • Charges enemies in the Rift with void energy.
    • Charged enemies that cross over to the Material Plane will Banish themselves and nearby enemies back into the Rift.
    • When charged enemies die outside of the Rift, they surge and transfer the charge to nearby enemies.
  • 4: Cataclysm:
    • Cataclysm creates a sphere of Void Energy that shifts enemies within its radius into the Rift.
    • During its creation and final collapse, enemies stumble and take damage.
    • The sphere’s final collapse deals damage to enemies both in and out of the sphere, and scales based on the health and shields of ALL enemies in the Rift.
  • Additional changes:
    • Mission objective items, such as Datamass, can now be carried in and out of the Rift Plane. However! Be careful not to drop these items in the Rift Plane, as they can only be picked up in the Material Plane.
    • Allies in Cataclysm's sphere can now collect pickups including mission objective items.
    • The Rift Torrent Augment Mod will now grant Limbo a damage increase (15/20/25/30%) for every enemy affected by Rift Surge and has had it’s description changed to reflect this.
    • Toned down the FX while in the Rift.
