Kunai throwing daggers offer a silent alternative to the traditional sidearm. Perfect for assassins.

The Kunai are a set of throwing knives, released in Update 8.0 (2013-05-23). It deals a significant amount of damage, but can be hard to aim with because of its arrow-like arc projection.

  • The Kunai does not have the pinning properties of other projectile weapons, such as the  Boltor or  Paris, but will simply throw targets backwards upon death.

Incarnon Genesis[]

Evolution[]

  • Installing the Kunai Incarnon Genesis requires 20  Pathos Clamps, 70  Yao Shrubs, and 80  Eevani.
  • When installed, the first Evolution tier is unlocked. The following Evolution tiers, their requirements for unlocking them, and their related perks, are shown below;

Evolution I[]

  • Weakpoint hits charge Incarnon Transmutation; Alt Fire transmutes. Switching back will expend any remaining charge.
  • Projectiles seek Headshots and have increased Multishot.
  • Mode switching is not instantaneous and has an animation equal to the weapon's reload speed.
  • Incarnon Form is activated by filling the Incarnon Transmutation gauge that appears under the reticule by achieving weakpoint hits and then pressing the Alternate Fire button. 4 weakpoints will completely fill the gauge. A full gauge is not required to activate Incarnon Form.
    • Charges do not generate on the backpacks of most MOA variants, or vulnerability spots generated by  Sonar or  Detect Vulnerability in places other than actual weakpoints.
    • Weakpoints on corpses or Invulnerable targets do not build charges.
    • Individual Multishot bullets can build charges.
  • Instead of drawing ammunition from its reserves, the Kunai's Incarnon Form uses a separate "magazine" with each charge producing 5 rounds to a maximum of 20. Once all ammunition is expended, the Kunai reverts to its normal form.
    • Incarnon Form's magazine is not affected by mods.
    • Incarnon Form is not affected by Ammo Efficiency (such as  Energized Munitions).
    • Charges and Incarnon Form persists through all activities, such as holstering, bleedout, or being disarmed. However, charges and Incarnon Form are removed upon death.

Tips[]

  • Make sure to adjust your aim for moving targets.
  • When using at a distance, aim above the enemy to adjust for the arc of the blades.
  • Using the  Pistol Ammo Mutation mod can help regain lost ammo when needed.
  • The Kunai's throwing arc means you can sometimes aim at targets behind cover. Aiming slightly above the cover will result in the Kunai curving downwards onto the target.
    • Note that this is extremely situational, as enemy cover is usually too high to take advantage of this.

Trivia[]

  • The Kunai (苦無) were traditionally a multipurpose tool, similar in design to a crowbar or trowel. It could be used for gardening, masonry, and other things. Popular culture has since associated the kunai with ninjas.
  • The  Despair and  Hikou share similarities to the Kunai, they are all thrown secondaries that deal mostly  Puncture damage.
  • Update 16.7 (2015-06-04) revealed the Kunai to be a themed-weapon based off the  Paris, in the same manner that other themed-weapons like the  Akjagara,  Aksomati, and  Bolto are related to the  Tigris,  Soma, and  Boltor respectively.
