Kinemantik Instant Messenger

The Kinematik Instant Messager (KIM) is a communication and chat service created by Kinemantik in 1999, allowing users to communicate with individuals or in chat rooms. It is available after completing The Hex quest.

Overview

KIM is often used by the citizens of Höllvania to communicate and distribute information. The Drifter gains access to KIM to socialize with  The Hex.

KIM can be accessed using the Pom-2 computer in the Orbiter or Backroom.

Romance & Relationship

KIM's primary feature is the Romance & Relationship System that allows the Drifter to form budding relationships with the Hex, learning more about their backstories and the history of Höllvania.

Optionally, the Drifter may pursue an individual member as a love interest and spend New Years Eve 1999 with their significant other, culminating in a kiss with them.

KIM Profiles

Each Hex member has a profile that displays their username, real name, birthday, and their current Chemistry rank.

Selecting a Hex member on the KIM screen will display their actual name, their Birthday, and current Chemistry rank. Continuing to chat with them will add notes about that member to assist in conversation decisions and gifting!

Chemistry

Interacting with KIM increases Chemistry with individual members.

Players can increase their Chemistry by chatting, gifting, and running Bounties. All activities are available once per day resetting at the Daily Reset. To start earning Chemistry requires completing an introductory chat with each Hex member. Chemistry will not be decreased if the player provides less favored chat options or gifts.

Chemistry ranks are as follows:

1. Neutral
2. Friendly (requires 40 Chemistry, 2 Dialogues, and Rank 2 - Fresh Slice with the Hex Syndicate)
3. Liked (requires 90 Chemistry, 4 Dialogues, and Rank 3 - 2-for-1)
   • Reaching Liked with all six members is required to trigger The Hex Finale and unlock Rank 4 - Hot & Fresh with the Syndicate.
4. Trusted (requires 160 Chemistry, 7 Dialogues, and Rank 4 - Hot & Fresh)
5. Close (requires 250 Chemistry, 10 Dialogues, and Rank 5 - Pizza Party)
6. Best Friends or Loved (requires 360 Chemistry and 13 Dialogues)

If the player is capped by the Syndicate standing, a lock symbol and rank requirement will appear on the Hex member's tab, along with a note stating "I need to prove myself as a member of the Hex before I spend more time talking to them one on one..." However, players can continue to earn Chemistry points even if they are capped by the Syndicate standing; any excess points will flow into the next Chemistry rank once the Syndicate is ranked-up.

Increasing Chemistry rank unlocks more personal conversation options and the ability to date a Hex member.

Chatting

Striking up a conversation and choosing the correct responses that varies by member may generate Chemistry, indicated (though not always) by a glimmering gold text.

Discussions with the Hex may veer into serious and sensitive topics such as mental health, loss, war, and more.

Birthday Messages

Completing the 1999 Calendar advances the in-game time forward to reach a Hex member's birthdate. The player can optionally send a birthday message to earn Chemistry.

Gifting

The DIRECTGIFTZ store can be used to send gifts to each member for a cost of  Höllars. The Chemistry gain is reflected in the “Gift Sent” screen via a red heart symbol.

Bounties

Each Bounty in the Höllvania Central Mall has a randomly assigned Hex member that will join the player in-mission, and is guaranteed to award Chemistry upon completion. Every bounty grants 20 Chemistry regardless of Bounty Tier. Members are reassigned every 150-minute bounty reset.

Note that the accompany member will not participate in the mission when providing transmissions:

• Arthur will not accompany Assassination.
• Aoi for Scaldra Exterminate.
• Amir for Scaldra Hell-Scrub.
• Quincy for Techrot Exterminate.
• Leticia for Techrot Hell-Scrub.
• Eleanor for Legacyte Harvest.

Dating

After reaching "Trusted" with Aoi, Amir or Quincy, or "Close" with Arthur, Leticia, or Eleanor, the option to "Ask to date" will appear when speaking to the members in the Höllvania Central Mall. Depending on chatting responses in KIM, the recipient may or may not accept the invitation to date.

Only one Hex member can be dated at a time, requiring the player to break up with their date in the Höllvania Central Mall. However, a breakup may prevent getting back with that person.

It is also possible, albeit unpredictably, to start and end relationships during KIM chats, so players should take caution with flirtatious dialogue if they wish to engage in dating.

After reaching "Loved" with the player's date, they will appear in the Backroom.

When the 1999 Calendar year rolls over to the Winter season every 4 real-life weeks and the player has reached "Loved" with one of the Hex members, the player will receive an inbox message containing a cutscene showing the Drifter and their date sharing a kiss on New Year's Eve. If the player does not have a date but has "Best Friends" with all of the Hex, the Drifter will instead share a hug with Kalymos.

When the year ends, do you want to remember your relationships with the Hex, or forget them and start over?

If you are dating a Hex member, forgetting will end this relationship.

While it is not possible to retread other response options in conversations, it is possible to reset the Romance & Relationship progression. Once the 1999 Calendar year rolls over to the Winter season once every 4 real-life weeks, the player will be prompted to REMEMBER or FORGET; choosing to forget will prompt a yes or no confirmation.

Choosing to reset the Romance & Relationship System will erase all conversation history and Chemistry ranks with every Hex member. This does not affect standing with the Hex Syndicate or the group chat conversations from Syndicate rank-ups.

• Fixed imposter-looking Drifters appearing in New Year's Eve kiss cinematics.
  • If the Drifter in the cinematic looked a little sus, they should more closely resemble your actual Drifter now!

• Fixed agreeing to Date a Protoframe while Best Friends resulting in your Chemistry Rank not changing (and related mechanics not triggering).
  • Those who were in this state prior to this Hotfix will need to earn Chemistry with said Protoframe (via gifting or Bounties) to get their rank to update.
  • Also fixes the same issue if breaking up with a Protoframe.

Hotfix 38.0.5 (2024-12-18)

KIM: Romance & Relationship System Changes & Fixes:

As shared in a PSA yesterday, we have added ways to better communicate when you are unable to rank up in Chemistry with a Protoframe due to being an insufficient rank in The Hex Syndicate. We’ve done so in the following ways:

• Added lock icon and a note in Protoframes’ Profiles in the KIM: Romance & Relationship UI to indicate when you are unable to rank up in Chemistry due to being an insufficient rank in The Hex Syndicate.
  • The note reads: “I need to prove myself as a member of the Hex before I spend more time talking to them one on one”.
  • This note will not prevent players from further messaging the Protoframe while they have remaining conversation options. You will still be able to earn Chemistry while in this state.
• Once a player has exhausted ALL conversation options for their Chemistry Rank with a Protoframe, a lock icon will appear on their KIM chat, indicating what Hex Syndicate rank is needed to continue talking to them.
• Note: We mentioned in the PSA that we’d also be including some kind of indicator in the Höllvania Bounty End of Mission screen. We’ll be adding this in the new year!

General KIM Changes:

• Added a “whoosh” SFX when ranking up with Protoframes.

KIM Fixes:

• Fixed instances where Lettie and Amir could get stuck typing forever (oof we all know the anxiety of watching someone type a response).
• Fixed being able to interact with other UI menus while the “Liked” Chemistry rank up cinematic played.
• Fixed a typo in one of Eleanor’s responses.
• Fixed a grammatical error in one of Quincy’s responses.

Changes:

• Change the name of the “Kinematic Tannoy" in the DIRECTGIFTZ Shop to “Kinematic Announce”.

Fixes:

• Fixed the ™ tag not properly displaying on The Scooticle in the DIRECTGIFTZ Shop UI.

Hotfix 38.0.4 (2024-12-17)

• Fixed being able to increase your Chemistry rank with a Protoframe before interacting with The Hex Syndicate, which then caused players to rank back down.
  • This was particularly noticeable with Lettie, since her Birthday allowed players to get extra Chemistry with her.
  • We unfortunately forgot to call out a very important detail about the KIM: Romance & Relationship System in the Update 38 Patchnotes (which have now been updated), that explains that Chemistry Ranks are locked behind Hex Syndicate Ranks. • Fixed Eleanor, Lettie and Arthur being dateable at the “Trusted” Chemistry Rank instead of the intended “Close”.

• Fixed case where the gold sparkling text indicating Chemistry gain with a Protoframe could appear on your own text. Self love is a great thing, but not in this instance.

Hotfix 38.0.3 (2024-12-16)

• Added 1 more eligible gift option per Protoframe that’ll increase your Chemistry with them!
  • If you missed the detail in the Update 38 patch notes, only certain gifts will increase Chemistry for each Protoframe. After being bombarded with a variety of gifts since Warframe: 1999’s release, it appears they’ve all grown fond of an additional item in DIRECTGIFTZ’ offerings.
  • Previous gifts of these newly-liked items will not increase your Chem retroactively!
• Fixed being able to complete more than one conversation a day per Protoframe.
  • We hotdropped this fix yesterday after realizing that the fix that went out in Hotfix 38.0.2 to correct erroneous reset dates/times ended up allowing for more than one conversation after the daily reset on Dec 15th. Moving forward conversations will properly reset at 0:00 UTC.
• Fixed the Rank 2 to 3 transmission playing after each conversation / Gift sent to Protoframe.
• Fixed Arthur and Lettie’s profiles incorrectly indicating that you’ve been flirty with them, when you are in fact, not.
• Fixed being able to send a Birthday message to Lettie from the 1999 Calendar more than once, allowing you to earn more than the intended Chemistry per Birthday interaction.
• Fixed multiple script errors in the KIM system.

Hotfix 38.0.2 (2024-12-14)

• Fixed KIM Daily Conversation reset being set to midnight EST instead of 0:00 UTC.
  • For Tenno who chatted up the Hex today prior to this hotfix, this bug will persist until you hit reset again (at the bugged time of 0:00 EST). To clarify:
  • For any Protoframe you have chatted with after 0:00 EST on December 14 (but before today’s hotfix), your next set of conversations with them will become available at 0:00 EST on December 15. Once that reset passes, any further conversations will properly reset at 0:00 UTC.
  • Any Protoframes you did not speak to today (between December 14 at 0:00 EST and the hotfix’s release) will have their KIM Conversations reset properly at 0:00 UTC.
• Fixed a typo in one of Amir's conversations KIM. Speed is no excuse for mistyping!

Hotfix 38.0.1 (2024-12-14)

• Fixed being able to start another conversation with a Protoframe after they go offline.
  • By design, you can only chat with each Protoframe once per day (resetting at 0:00 UTC).
  • This also fixes getting stuck in a “Please Wait” hang while chatting.
• Fixed certain instances where Protoframes would appear listed in the KIM system as if they were “online” to chat, when they are in fact not.
• Fixed a heart icon always showing up in the DIRECTGIFTZ purchase confirmation window, regardless of if it actually increased your Chemistry with the receiving Protoframe.
• Fixed several script errors in the KIM chat system.
