Lore & History[]
Forbidden Love[]
- Main article: Jade's Promise
During the Orokin Era, Jade was once an ordinary human, engaged in an unsanctioned relationship with a Low Guardian named Sorren. However, the desire to sire a child, which was considered a violation of the Legems, worried him. Jade would dismiss his worries, believing that Sorren would always protect them.[1]
Seeing their relationship as spiteful, they were eventually caught by Executor Ballas.[2] As punishment, Jade was converted into a Warframe during her pregnancy, with Ballas taunting her about failing to birth her child. Due to her power of the Jade Light, the Orokin would mainly contain Jade in a hibernation pod within the execution chamber on Lua, only freeing her to carry out the Seven's executions. Believing her to be asleep within her pod, Jade would instead dream of seeing her child's face, and the time they would have spent together.[3]
Ballas would continue to taunt Jade, stating that Sorren is actually alive, having been converted into a Warframe. Having blamed himself and attempting to repent, Sorren now loyally serves the Orokin in hopes of seeing his wife again.[4]
Jade was eventually given an Operator, and sent on an assignment to Mars. Horrified at the what the Orokin did to the child, Jade lulled the Operator to sleep and fought of her own free will, believing that the Orokin's reckoning will one day come.[5]
When the Naga drums resounded at the night of the Orokin Fall, Jade encountered Sorren, but he did not recognize her. As the Tenno began massacring the Orokin at the Terminus, Jade fought her way to him and flew away, ultimately arriving at Hunhow's tomb in Uranus.[6] Recalling Ballas's taunts that her unborn child may move if she laid still for a long time, Jade then spent the remainder of her life channeling all her energy into her pregnancy.[7]
Jade's Passing[]
- Main article: Jade Shadows
In the present day, Jade has fallen critically ill. Sorren, now known as the Stalker, attempts to nurse her back to health as thanks for saving his life. Despite his attempts at stealing medicine from the Corpus, Jade's life continues to wither. Hunhow urges Stalker to move past his hate, finally forcing him to turn to the Operator for help. Via Transference, the Operator discovers that Jade is not fighting an illness, but is instead conceiving. Despite their help, the Operator can only help Jade with her birth, and she ultimately passes soon after, dissolving into motes of green light while she comforts Stalker one last time.
While attempting to heal Jade, Stalker would catch the attention of Corpus Captain, Xeto, who raids his lair soon after Jade passes away. Stalker, now protecting his newborn son, fights past the invading Corpus to reach the surface. Upon reaching his ship, Xeto corners Stalker with a barrage of laser fire. However, upon hearing the cries of the child, Xeto orders her forces to stand down and respectfully allows the Stalker to escape.
After reminiscing his promise to protect his family, Stalker names the child either Sirius or Orion.
Finally, Hunhow then contacts the Tenno. Despite Stalker's hatred, he entrusts Jade's blueprint to them, believing its what she would have wanted.
Granum's Desecration[]
- Main article: Operation: Belly of the Beast
When Jade passed, she disintegrated into motes of Jade Light which have now permeated the Stalker's hideout. Sensing opportunity, Corpus Founder Parvos Granum sends his Corpus to collect the motes to further his Jade Eximus project,[8] intent on using her power as a tool of his desire.[9] However, Parvos's current Jade Eximus are unfinished, and he requires Jade's Volatile Motes to perfect them. The Tenno now fight to collect these motes first, consigning them to be burned in the Sun so Jade can fully rest.[10]
Despite his remaining hatred for the Tenno, the Stalker would provide them aid, and could be seen fighting alongside them.
The Tenno are ultimately victorious, with Parvos now attempting to harvest Jade's lesser Vestigial Motes to complete his project. However, due to their lack of sheer power compared the Volatile Motes, his progress is virtually halted.[11]
Notes[]
- After completing Jade Shadows, an assembly of seven of Jade's feathers will appear behind Teshin in any Relay, in front of some tombstones.
- Currently, Evensong, Cantare, and Harmony all lack a Signature Weapon bonus with Jade.
- If Stalker, Shadow Stalker, or Protector Stalker appears in the mission via Death Mark and Jade is present, the Stalker will immediately despawn and drop his loot.
Trivia[]
- Jade is the 57th unique Warframe to be released.
- Because of the circumstances during Jade's conversion into a Warframe, any copies of her, like the one crafted by the Operator, also appear to be pregnant.
- She is voiced by Raffaela Wayma.[12]
- In the Pax East 2024 live audience Devstream 178, Jade's update teaser splash art was revealed with the Stalker's Landing Craft looming in the background. In Devstream 179, Jade's concept art, theme, signature weapons, and alt helmet were shown. In Devstream 180 her full gameplay reveal was demonstrated by a prerecording from [DE]Pablo.
- Notably, considerable effort was done to hide her pregnancy prior to her introduction to the game: Teaser art either featured her from behind or in one case, with Harmony obscuring her stomach, while gameplay footage and animations never showed her from up front.
- Jade takes several inspirations from Angels from Abrahamic religions. Most notable in the numerous sets of wings she has and her link to choral music.
- Her dress and the covers wrapped around her chest and her helmet are feather-like protrusions with cloth physics; they stay folded and compact when idle, then expand into angelic wings during Idle Animations and Glory on High.
- Symbols for Symphony of Mercy's three auras resemble biblical angel's wings in various shapes and forms.
- Additionally, Jade is named "Choir" in the game files.
- She is the first Warframe whose name starts with the letter 'J'. At the time of her announcement, there was 1 remaining letter in the English Alphabet 'U', that did not have an associated Warframe.
- She is the next female Warframe in line after Trinity, Equinox, Wisp, Yareli, Gyre, and Dagath to wear a skirt or dress with cloth physics.
- Jade is also the name Nyx originally went by during development.
- She is the first Warframe to have two Aura mod slots as her unique passive.
- She is the second Warframe to have three Signature Weapons after Gara.
- She is the third Warframe after Protea and Dante with a built-in universal Aura polarity.
- She is the third Warframe after Titania and Hildryn to use a flight-based fourth ability associated with an Exalted Weapon.
- She is the eleventh Warframe after Limbo, Hildryn, Wisp, Titania Prime, Protea, Xaku, Sevagoth, Gyre, Qorvex, and Dante with a unique dodge roll animation, where Jade dashes with her arms outstretched, or twirls during sidesprings, along with the wings on her torso spreading.
- Jade's weapons are parallel to the Stalker's: Dread vs. Evensong bow, Despair vs. Cantare throwing knives, and Hate vs. Harmony scythe.
- Jade's component blueprints were accidentally included in Dagath's Hollow in the Clan Dojo upon the initial release of the Jade Shadows update. The blueprints were subsequently removed on Hotfix 36.0.1 (2024-06-19), and all players who bought copies of Jade's component blueprints this way were allowed to keep them.
