Hystrix Prime is Vaulted.
The Void Relics for this item have been removed from the drop tables and do not drop during missions at this time. Check the current Prime Resurgence rotation to see if Varzia offers relics for this item. Vaulted Void Relics already contained in player inventories are not affected and can still be either opened or traded between players.
Hystrix Prime is the primed counterpart of the Hystrix quill gun, sporting increased damage, critical chance, and status chance, and marginally faster reload speed. Hystrix Prime was released alongside Khora Prime and Dual Keres Prime.
Characteristics[]
- Alternate Fire cycles between Toxin, Heat, Electricity, or Cold elemental quills. Quills apply a guaranteed proc of the selected element.
- On kill, bodies will follow the quill that killed them, damaging anyone in their path and pinning the corpse to walls.
- Has an 8% chance to instantly reload on headshots when wielded by Khora or Khora Prime.
- Two innate polarities.
Advantages:
- High critical chance.
- Above average critical multiplier.
- High fire rate.
- Fairly quick reload speed.
Disadvantages:
- Low status chance.
- Small magazine size.
- Coupled with its high fire rate, results in frequent reloading.
- Projectiles have travel time.
Comparisons:
- Hystrix Prime (Poison Quill), compared to Hystrix (Poison Quill):
- Higher base damage per projectile (46.00 vs. 36.00)
- Higher total damage (46 vs. 36)
- Higher base critical chance (28.00% vs. 24.00%)
- Higher base status chance (20.00% vs. 10.00%)
- Higher average damage per tap (61.45 vs. 46.36)
- Higher burst DPS (430.19 vs. 324.57)
- Higher sustained DPS (253.05 vs. 186.13)
- Faster reload time (1.60 s vs. 1.70 s)
- More polarities ( vs. )
- Higher Mastery Rank required (12 vs. 7)
- Lower disposition (●●●○○ (0.90x) vs. ●●●●○ (1.20x))

Notes[]
- Using the Alternate Fire button will cycle between the four quill types, each quill characterized by the four main elements ( Toxin, Heat, Electricity, Cold). The selected quill will proc the element of its name. For example, the Poison Quill will deal 36.1 base physical damage and proc Toxin.
- The Hystrix by default does not deal any elemental damage, only elemental procs.
- Quill elements are not affected by elemental mods of different elements. For example, using Jolt with the Fire Quill will not combine to either deal Radiation damage or a Radiation proc, even when both the Heat and Electricity procs occur simultaneously.
- However, elemental mods of the same type will combine. For example, using Scorch with the Fire Quill will add to the guaranteed Heat proc's damage over time as if Scorch were a base damage mod.
- Elemental mods of the same type will still combine even when paired with a different elemental mod too. For example, using Scorch and Jolt with the Fire Quill will add to the guaranteed Heat proc's damage over time as if Scorch were a base damage mod, though Jolt will not be factored into the damage.
- However, elemental mods of the same type will combine. For example, using Scorch with the Fire Quill will add to the guaranteed Heat proc's damage over time as if Scorch were a base damage mod.
Tips[]
- Because elemental mods are not combined with the quill's element, this weapon synergizes well with Condition Overload and Galvanized Shot, allowing players to potentially get up to 9 separate proc types on a target (three physical damages, four primary elements, and two secondary elements).
- Using Augur Pact over any of the +90% elemental mods may be preferable, when expecting to use several of the weapon's elemental effects.
- The former will increase the weapon's physical base damage types, and the damage-over-time component of its Toxin, Heat or Electricity status effects.
- The latter will add its elemental damage type to all hits, but any damage-over-time effects from the primary elemental procs, will only be boosted when they match the elemental mod's type.
- It should be noted that, while the bonus given by both mods seems the same, the elemental damage mods will give much more benefit, as Augur Pact does the calculation alongside base damage mods (e.g. Hornet Strike), while the +90% elemental mods perform the calculation after base damage mods. This can be a significant deciding factor when trying to maximize damage output.
