Höllvania is a city-state located on Earth during the year 1999. It is available after completing The Hex, using the Pom-2 found on the Orbiter's Landing Craft, the Höllvania Central Mall, or Backroom.
Ravaged by the Techrot, Höllvania's once-bustling city streets have been reduced to rubble or overrun by the Infested mass. The Höllvanian government responded by dispatching the Scaldra armed forces, who have set up checkpoints and barricades across the streets. Race along the roads with the Atomicycle, or stalk the rooftops to take up firing positions.
As the Scaldra control the surface, the Techrot run rampant in the underground and dominate the subterranean caves and malls.
Lore & History[]
Höllvania is an ancient walled city-state that was founded during the reign of an individual named the Radiant Khan.[1]
Due to an outbreak of the Techrot within Höllvania, martial law has been decreed. The state's military force, the Scaldra, now keep the nation under a strict quarantine, locking down any roads in and out.
As the Techrot infests and corrupts Höllvania's districts, numerous buildings and apartments can be seen covered in bulbous fumigation tents, while Efervon Gas is continually pumped in to disinfect the interiors.
While civilians are present within the city, the Scaldra appear have to no intentions of actually saving them, enforcing strict curfews and openly defaming The Hex, with the gas they employ being just as harmful to humans. Lieutenant Viktor Vodyanoi also sees the Techrot crisis as an opportunity to purge undesirable individuals from Höllvania.

Features[]
Unique Enemies[]
There are two new enemy factions that occupy Höllvania: the Scaldra soldiers that battle with Corrosive and Gaseous Efervon, and the Techrot that occupy computer-like systems. Generally, the Scaldra claim the streets of Höllvania, while the Techrot dominate the city's underground centers, though certain mission modifiers may allow the Techrot to emerge from the surface.
Weather[]
There are four seasons that span across the entire year: Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn. This affects the appearance of the tileset, and increases the spawns of a particular Eximus type[2]:
- Winter: Arctic Eximus
- Spring: Jade Light Eximus
- Summer: Arson Eximus
- Autumn: Energy Leech Eximus
The seasons span three months of in-game time:
- Winter: January, February, March
- Spring: April, May, June
- Summer: July, August, September
- Autumn: October, November, December
Seasons advance weekly at Monday 00:00 UTC.
Hex Treasure[]
Hex Treasures are Höllvania's counterpart of Syndicate Medallions for The Hex. Up to 8 treasures can spawn within a mission, with a potential 9th found in Techrot Safes.
Techrot Safes[]
A single Techrot Safe can be found within any Höllvania mission (except Exterminate) and can be opened with a nearby Biocode, awarding 100,000, an Arcane Enhancement ( Arcane Bellicose, Arcane Truculence, Arcane Impetus, Arcane Camisado, Arcane Crepuscular, Primary Crux, Secondary Enervate, Melee Doughty), and a Hex Treasure. They are waypointed once the player is within 100 meters of them. Drops from the safe are not squadwide.
The Biocode is placed somewhere within the same tile of the Safe, indicated by a faint blue glow and a humming noise distinct from Hex Treasures. They are considered a resource that can appear on the minimap via Radar mods like Loot Detector or Thief's Wit, and can be detected by Orokin Eye or Golden Instinct. As carriables, the Biocode will disable the use of primary weapons.
Scaldra Supply Cache[]
Exclusive to Exterminate missions, Scaldra Supply Caches are sealed up boxes which can be opened with nearby Efervon Charges equal to 1 + Number of Squad Members, awarding an Arcane Enhancement ( Arcane Bellicose, Arcane Truculence, Arcane Impetus, Arcane Camisado, Arcane Crepuscular, Primary Crux, Secondary Enervate, Melee Doughty) but sending stronger enemy reinforcements (Scaldra Stormfall paratroopers or Techrot Infested Spawn Pods) while also increasing enemy levels by 20. Upon nearing a Scaldra Supply Cache, players have 2 minutes to open it before it self-destructs and destroys its contents. Drops from a cache are squadwide.
Efervon Charges are indicated by green pillars of light and emit a low humming sound, and are automatically waypointed once the player is within 8 meters of one. They do not appear on the minimap via Radar mods like Loot Detector or Thief's Wit, nor can they be detected by Orokin Eye or Golden Instinct. They will always spawn in the same location within a tile. As carriables, the charges will disable the use of primary weapons.
Notes[]
- While Acolytes do spawn on The Steel Path, the other Assassins, such as The Stalker, The Grustag Three, Zanuka Hunter and Syndicate Death Squads cannot spawn, even when the respective Beacon is used.
- Due to story reasons, the Operator cannot appear in Höllvania. While the Operator can still be selected and customized in the Backroom, initiating Transference still forces control of the Drifter.
- Eximus have a much higher spawn rate in Höllvania missions.
- Converted Kuva Liches and Sisters of Parvos can still aid you in battle if you're defeated.
- All kinds of Alerts, Void Fissures, Syndicate Missions, Sorties and Archon Hunts cannot happen in Höllvania.
Trivia[]
- The name "Höllvania" is possibly derived from German hölle, meaning "hell", and the suffix -sylvania present in names like Transylvania, which describes something pertaining to forests.
- While its exact location on Earth is never confirmed, Höllvania's architecture appears to mainly be inspired by that of Central and Eastern Europe, especially the countries of the former Soviet Union-influenced Eastern Bloc such as Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia.
- Arthur mentions that there are mountains to the north of the city-state.
- The skybox features two large ships akin to cruise liners, implying that Höllvania has access to a sea, an ocean or a large river such as the Danube.
- The "Radiant Khan" mentioned as the reason why Höllvania is surrounded by walls[1] could be an indication that the city is located in an area that was subject to Mongol (or equivalent) invasion.
- As with many other elements of 1999 that look to be spiritual successors to Digital Extremes' previous game Dark Sector, Höllvania can be seen as a spiritual successor to Lasria, the fictional post-Soviet state which suffers the outbreak of the Technocyte Virus and the lockdown by Lasrian Military, similar to the Techrot plague and the Scaldra military seen in Höllvania.

Patch History[]
Hotfix 38.0.5 (2024-12-18)
- Höllvania missions that must be completed to receive the 1999 Steel Path Trophy/Emote are now marked with an “!” icon.
- As a refresher, earning the 1999 Steel Path Trophy and Emote requires you to complete all missions on the Normal Path before any Steel Path node completion would count towards the Steel Path Trophy. This set-up is different from other Regions, and has led to a lot of confusion from players who have completed all of the Steel Path nodes but have not received the Trophy/Emote inbox. Changing the logic requires a Code Fix, which we unfortunately could not implement before the holidays, so this is our workaround for the time being.
- Now, if you have NOT completed all missions on the Normal Path (and therefore cannot earn Trophy progress for the Steel Path nodes), this “!” icon should help indicate that your Steel Path progress is not being registered. With the aid of our PSA, players hopefully then know they are missing a Normal Path node that they must play for Steel Path progress to be registered. We know this is far from ideal, but we wanted to at least have some visual indication of “completion is not being registered” while we work on a better fix.
- Fixed performance issues caused by the enemy spawns after opening Scaldra Caches in Höllvania Exterminate missions.
- Fixes towards script error caused by the pools of Efervon released from the tanks in Höllvania.

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Eleanor on Kinemantik Instant Messaging - "You have to understand: they were locking Höllvania down, but they couldn't do it all at once. This may be a walled city-state that's been here since the time of the Radiant Khan, but the walls they put up to fend her off are old now and the powers in charge couldn't get barricades and checkpoints up in time."
