Historical/Legacy Terms
These are terms that may still be used by long-term players but refer to things that no longer exist.
- AbilityPol - An earlier name for the Augment/Channeling Polarity. Up until Update 15.0 (2014-10-24), Warframe Abilities also had their own Mod cards, allowing players to equip/unequip Abilities.
- Acolyte Mods - Refers to mods which used to be dropped by the Stalker's Acolytes. These mods have since been added as rotating rewards from Cambion Drift bounties, and the Acolytes themselves now drop Steel Essence.
- Alert - Missions that appear randomly and give additional credits or loot as a reward. Has been replaced by Nightwave.
- Alertium - Refers to Nitain Extract, which at the time was obtained by completing one of the four guaranteed daily Nitain alerts.
- Akkad - A Dark Sector Defense mission node on Eris that was popular for players to farm credits using the Secura Lecta. It is no longer popular due to the Secura Lecta receivng a nerf to the amount of bonus credits it provides.
- Arcane Helmet - Before Hotfix 13.2.3 (2014-05-07), alternative helmets for Warframes were not purely cosmetic, and would provide the player with both a positive and a negative effect while the helmet was equipped. These helmets still exist in the game and can be traded between players, but they cannot be obtained through any other means as their natural method of being obtained has since been replaced by pure cosmetic versions. As a result, they are now treated as valuable items to have, even if the player themselves does not intend to use such helmets.
- Channeling - A melee mechanic where using Primary fire while wielding a Melee Weapon would cause the Weapon to deal extra damage at the cost of consuming energy per hit. Replaced by heavy attacks in Update 26.0 (2019-10-31).
- Copter, Coptering, Spin Dashing, Zoren Coptering - Using the slide attack of Melee Weapons, particularly those with a high attack speed, to fling a player a great distance quickly. The momentum generated by Melee slide attacks was greatly reduced in Update 17.0 (2015-07-31) in exchange for Bullet Jumping.
- Draco - An Interception mission node on Ceres that was a popular spot for players to gain Affinity. The mission type was changed to Survival in Update 19.0 (2016-11-11), on top of Ceres becoming an early-mid game planet as a whole, making it less popular.
- E Gate - An Excavation mission node on Venus that was popular for players to get Mods and resources. The mission type was changed to Exterminate in Update 19.0 (2016-11-11), and is described as being the root cause for the implementation of AFK countermeasures.
- Founders - In the early stages of Warframe, there existed a form of Prime Access known as the Founders' Program which could be paid for in a manner similar to current Prime Access Packs. The purpose of the Founders' Program was to help fund the early stages of the game, and upon doing so, players could obtain Excalibur Prime, Lato Prime, and/or Skana Prime alongside having a unique Founder title associated with their account. The Founders' program ended November 1st, 2013, and Digital Extremes has expressed no intentions of ever re-releasing content exclusive to the Founders' Program.
- This makes Excalibur Prime the only Warframe in the game that newer players cannot obtain through any means.
- Fusion Core, core - Before the introduction of Endo, Mods used to be leveled by fusing other mods into a specific Mod to rank up. Fusion cores' sole purpose was to be used in fusion, and could not be equipped on any gear. Additionally, they provided more fusion progress than normal Mods did, making them the most used method of leveling mods.
- R5 - Fusion core ranked Rare 5.
- U5 - Fusion core ranked Uncommon 5.
- Green - Life Support pick-ups in Survival missions. Named for the green HUD indicator that was unique to them.
- GMag - A Greedy Pull Augment-using Mag. At release, the Augment allowed Pull to affect pickups, bringing them closer to Mag and her allies. It would eventually be nerfed by making it pull pickups towards Mag only; for her allies, pickups would remain in their original positions.
- Harvester - The original name of Zanuka Hunter.
- Helmet - The original name of Neuroptics, a component used to craft Warframes.
- Hieracon - A Dark Sector Excavation mission node on Pluto that was popular for players to farm R5 Fusion Cores. The mission is no longer popular due to the removal of Cores.
- JV - The Jordas Verdict, an 8-player Infested Trial mission which could be obtained by buying and crafting its key from the equipment section in the market.
- Kiste - A Mobile Defense mission located in Ceres that was once a popular spot to farm Affinity much like Draco. It became unpopular when Ceres was made into an early-mid game planet in Update 19.0 (2016-11-11).
- LoR, LOR - Law of Retribution, an 8-player Trial mission which could be obtained by buying and crafting its key from the equipment section in the market.
- Naked Nick - The person inside the Warframe Cryopod before its model was changed in Update 12.0 (2014-02-05).
- He now appears exclusively during WARFRAME's anniversary alerts as a walking Defense objective.
- Power - Old term for Abilities.
- R+QT - A combo between Rage and Quick Thinking which granted invulnerability. The combo's efficiency was reduced in Update 11.1 (2013-11-27), and the term fell out of use soon after.
- Raid - May Refer To:
- Trials, 8-player end-game content such as The Law of Retribution and The Jordas Verdict, which are no longer available.
- The long-absent Raid mission type, which has since been replaced by Survival.
- Rainbow Build - A Mod load-out popular during Damage 1.0 that used all elemental damage mods for maximum damage. Fell out of favor with the introduction of Damage 2.0.
- Stamina - A mechanic that acted as a method to hinder the player's ability to perform certain maneuver actions like sprinting or wall-running for an indefinite amount of time. This mechanic has since been removed in Update 17.0 (2015-07-31).
- Self Damage - A mechanic where using explosive Weapons would deal damage to the player should they be within range of the blast radius. Reworked into Stagger in Update 27.2 (2020-03-05). However, Bows equipped with Thunderbolt still deal self-damage.
- ShieldPol - Polarize, which was previously known as Shield Polarize before receiving a rework.
- Spin to Win - Refers to a combination of the Mods Maiming Strike and Blood Rush, which had the ability to grant any melee weapon in the game critical strike chance values exceeding 500% on slide attacks. Both mods have since been severely nerfed in Update 26.0 (2019-10-31).
- Super Jump - Excalibur's old third Ability, which would lauch you upwards in the air when used. Merged into Slash Dash in Update 16.9 (2015-06-17).
- Trial - See Raid.
- Twin Bolsak - Anagram of Twin Basolk, which was largely viewed as underpowered from its introduction in Update 17.8 (2015-10-21) until Update: Specters of the Rail 0.0 (2016-07-08), where it received significant buffs. Usage may be affectionate or not, depending on the context.
- Viver - An Interception node on Eris that was used to get large amounts of Mods, Resources or Credits in a short period of time. This node has since been removed in Update 19.0 (2016-11-11).
- Void Keys - A one time use key that would grant access to a Void mission of a specific type, where a name such as "Tower I Capture" would be a tier 1 void capture mission. Not only were Void Keys the only method of accessing the Void, but completing mission reward objectives from them were the only way to obtain Prime components aside from trading with players. They have since been replaced by Void Relics in Update 19.0 (2016-11-11).
- It was common to refer to specific Keys using short versions of their names. Such example would be "T4D" referring to Tower IV Defense.
- Xini - An Eris mission node, which was formerly a Defense Mission, that was used to gain Affinity in much the same way as Draco. The node is now currently an Interception node.
- World On Fire, WOF - Ember's old fourth Ability. It was a channeled Ability that would cause all enemies within a certain range of Ember to be dealt consistent heat damage. Reworked into Inferno in Update 26.0 (2019-10-31) due to the Ability being able to heavily trivialize lower tier missions.
