CODEX

The Expired are Ghouls who have succumbed to malnutrition or enviromental poisoning during the early stages of development. Their backup nervous systems continue to drive them forward, however, making them ideal suicide troops.

The Ghoul Expired is a Grineer Ghoul that suffered from malnutrition or poisoning during the early parts of its development, causing their nervous systems to drive them forward and function as an ideal suicide troop. Aiding them in this task are a pair of shields with multiple bomblets strapped on. As with all Ghouls, on death they will release a cloud that inflicts  Cold and  Toxin.

Behavior

The Ghoul Expired will rush towards enemies, bashing them with their explosive shields (or in some noted cases, grappling their targets to deal as much damage as they can with the blasts). If they are unable to reach their targets, they will instead attempt to lob their bomblets over a distance instead. Sometimes rarely they'll just self-destruct completely as soon as they spawn.

Bugs

• Despite the codex showing a base armor value of 150 and 100 respectively, the base armor value of the Ghoul Expired and the Demolisher Expired is 50.

Tips

• Shooting at their shields can cause them to explode, dealing AoE damage to all surrounding enemies and reducing the firepower of the Ghoul Expired.

Trivia

• A Ghoul Expired can be seen in Iron Wake holding two canisters of Grokdrul. Notably, this is the same model used for Ghoul Defectors in Ghoul Purge Bounties.
• An ally Ghoul Expired Deserter appears in Plains of Eidolon Ghoul Bounties replacing the default prisoner NPC. This Ghoul appears in the codex when scanned only when factions are sorted by "All"

Hotfix 27.3.14 (2020-04-15)

• Fixed a script error if a Ghoul Expired jumps at a target who dies by the time they get there.

Update 27.2 (2020-03-05)

• (Undocumented) Armor type changed from Cloned Flesh to Ferrite Armor.

Update 25.7 (2019-08-29)

• Fixed Ghouls targeting your Sentinel when it and you are both invisible (eg: Ivara's Prowl, Loki’s Invisibility, etc.).
