“You're not supposed to be in here! You're going to ruin the surprise!”
The following article/section contains spoilers. Please complete Chimera Prologue quest before proceeding.

If I had a heart, it would be broken. If my eyes could weep, I'd be blind. Look what they've made of you. You're a god. You're a queen! But somehow, the bees have you as a hostage. Do you even recognize me anymore?
—Erra to the Lotus

Erra is a high ranking Sentient commander and warlord. Son of Hunhow and Praghasa, and older[1][2] brother of Natah, he made his first appearance in The New War Trailer during TennoCon 2019, and officially appeared in the Erra cinematic quest.

Personality[]

Erra is a cruel and vicious warlord, fueled by his hatred for everything connected to the Orokin and the Tenno. When noticing a wounded, defenseless Dax warrior on Lua, slowly crawling away with her life— posing no threat to him— Erra grabbed her by the head, lifted her up to his face, and began crushing her head, only dropping her when his sister commanded him to. In Erra's eyes, if someone is even remotely connected to the Orokin, they have to die.

When interacting with his sister Natah, Erra is noticeably kinder, trying to plead with her to return to her family upon encountering her as the Lotus. And when she is eventually returned to the fold, Erra is rather patient with Natah as she suffers from the negative effects of mental manipulation. However, Erra is willing to harm her when his patience runs thin, always keeping their invasion his priority. When Narmer finally takes control of the system, Erra is proud of his accomplishments and convinced that his people are flourishing under Narmer. His father's attempts to call out his hypocrisy and blindness to Ballas' manipulations are met with disdain, as Erra believes Hunhow to be a failure.

Only later does he realize his father was telling the truth, helping the Tenno and noting with regret that his sister has to die yet again. When informed that his sister may yet be saved, Erra willingly sacrifices himself to allow the Tenno to continue their mission.

Lore & History[]

Erra[]

Late in the Old War, Erra led an assault on Lua alongside another Sentient, presumably Hunhow. He reached a cave full of Reservoirs, where he grabbed a still living Dax by her head. When the Lotus, surrounded by six Operators, ordered him to let her go, Erra was devastated at seeing her current self now siding with the enemy, and tried to make her remember who she used to be as Natah and return to their people's side. He failed, and the Tenno attacked him using Void Beams, making him scream in agony.

In the present, Erra and Natah reunite, as he holds Ballas on a leash. He informs her of how much the system has changed since she was "unraveled". Natah calls Ballas out for having created the Tenno. Erra asks his sister to sing for her people, to bring them back home, which she does.

The Maker[]

Erra is telling Natah that their mother is gone, and urges her to finish the war as she still has "her fire". Natah notes that she remembers ordering the Tenno to attack Erra and he was apparently destroyed. Erra and Ballas appear to be taken aback by this before the former objects, stating that she remembers wrong and will need time to completely heal from what the Makers had done to her. Natah points at leashed Ballas and asks if he is one of the Makers.

Erra then suddenly grabs Natah and throws her at the pedestal behind him, trapping her in an energy field. Erra tells her once more to finish the war and drops the leash from his hand. Revealing that his imprisonment was a deception, Ballas stands as both he and Erra then silently watch Natah.

Operation: Scarlet Spear[]

Erra started the first invasion of the New War targeting Earth, the former heart of the Orokin Empire. A fleet of Murex warships were sent to the Veil Proxima, an uncontrolled region of open space where Corpus and Grineer still battle for dominance, likely chosen as a safety precaution. From there, the Murex launched swarms of Condrix transport ships at various points on overgrown Earth for reconnaissance.

At the same time, the various Syndicates and resistance movements in the Origin System banded together with the Tenno as front fighters to fight back against the Sentient threat. Organised by Little Duck, the Tenno counterattacked both the Murex in space and the Condrix on Earth simultaneously. Since none of their weapons were capable of harming the Murex, a different strategy than simply attacking them was required. Once a Tenno ground team assaulted the Condrix and the Sentients guarding them and swiped the recon data before it could be transmitted back to the Murex, Little Duck and the alliance repurposed that friendly data, then sent it as a trojan horse to a Tenno team on-board a Murex. They then broadcast that harmful code into the Murex's head. While this didn't kill a Murex outright, it caused it immense pain, forcing it to retreat.

Fortunately for the Sentients, General Sargas Ruk was unwilling to cooperate with the Tenno, convinced they were to blame for the catastrophe or that it was some kind of ruse and attacking Tenno and Sentients alike. Despite this unintentional assistance, the Tenno and their allies forced most of the Murex to retreat, ending the first skirmish with their victory.

The New War[]

As the Sentients begin invading the Origin System with a Murex appearing above Cetus and crashing into The Unum's Tower, Erra stands before an Ostron child and removes their Excalibur mask, telling them not to be afraid. He later approaches Kahl-175 on the Plains of Eidolon, thwarting his attempt to destroy a Condrix, disarming his bomb and telling him not to be afraid.

As Ballas tortures the Lotus by forcing her to watch Teshin succumb to a Narmer Veil, Erra fights Teshin as he tries to resist. After Teshin forcefully removes the veil, Erra grabs him by the head and deems him a lost cause, killing him by crushing his head. Erra is then shot by the Operator, who looks on in horror at the turn of events. Erra silently watches as Ballas banishes the Lotus and the Operator to the Void.

Without the Tenno, the Sentients win The New War. The Origin System is now ruled by Ballas' Narmer Empire, with Erra as his second-in-command. Erra's Archons, hybridized Sentient-Warframe abominations from The Old War named Nira, Amar, and Boreal, served to instill fear in dissidents and ensure loyalty throughout the system. The Drifter works against Narmer, teaming up with Hunhow to restore the Lotus and the Operator. Hunhow unsuccessfully tries to convince his son that Ballas is just using him. When he points out that Erra is acting no better than a Dax in servitude to the Orokin, Erra rebuffs this claim, stating that Narmer has created peace and prosperity for the Sentients and swearing they will reclaim the Lotus and return her as Natah.

After the death of two Archons, the partial restoration of the Lotus, and the Operator's return, Ballas senses the Tenno and is enraged. Erra attempts to placate him, stating that he has won, and that every living thing in the Origin System, biological or not, worships him. Ballas however, sees this as hollow victory, as he believes that every denizen of the Sol System all wished for "that piss-warm comfort of being told what to think." Knowing that he cannot control the Tenno, Ballas orders Erra to recall the Sentient fleet and plots to take full control of the Lotus and make her kill her child.

When Ballas announces his plan to use the Sentient Mothership Praghasa to feed on the sun to destroy the Origin System and sacrifice his Narmer empire to fuel the ship's Void translation to the Tau System, Erra realizes Ballas intends to doom the Sentients and defects. As soon as the Tenno dock onto Praghasa, Erra destroys a Typholyst and holds up his hands to surrender. Instructing the Tenno to follow him, he guides them to the third and final Archon in hopes it will fully restore the Lotus. During the journey, however, damage from the battle causes the corridor to collapse; Erra sacrifices himself to save the Tenno, holding up the corridor long enough for them to safely pass. As he succumbs to the weight, he urges the Tenno to use the power of the third Archon's shard to save his sister and stop Ballas.

Veilbreaker[]

Although The New War has ended since the death of Ballas, the threat of Narmer did not completely fade away. Erra himself was weaponized into an Archon, his head replaced by that of a demonic ram, now leading Narmer under the name Pazuul. Kahl-175 calls Pazuul's "body is dead worm", suggesting that Erra did die during The New War and his corpse was reanimated by Narmer using the power of the Archon Shards.

During Archon Hunts, the Lotus discovers that Erra's consciousness is suppressed by Pazuul and the revived Archons, who grew vengeful towards their maker as they deemed their creation an act of shame. Erra briefly resurfaces to apologize to the Tenno and asks for their forgiveness. The Lotus hopes that defeating the Archons will free her brother.

Trivia[]

  • Erra is voiced by Antonio Greco.
  • The name probably comes from Erra, an Akkadian plague god known from an 'epos' of the eighth century BCE.
  • When Erra first appeared in The New War trailer, there was no mention regarding his name or who he is.
  • Unlike most Sentients, Erra has eyebrow-like structures in his head, which change position depending on his emotions. He also walks, as opposed to levitating like most smaller Sentients do including Natah.
  • Erra always refers to the Tenno as insects, calling them bees in a flashback during Erra and aphids during The Maker.
    • Oddly, while aphids don't have queens in their life cycle, Erra calls Natah "Queen of the aphids".
  • Erra is the third notable Sentient to ally with the Tenno, after Natah and (possibly for a time being) Hunhow.
