Charm is a precept mod for the  Smeeta Kavat to grant a random buff to its owner, indicated by a special icon next to its owner's health and shields.

The duration of the buffs below are for a fully-ranked Charm. When the player receives a buff (apart from Rare Resource), a charm icon will appear to the top right corner of the HUD, it will also display for a brief time what kind of buff it is.

Average Time for a Buff Occurrence[]

The average time for a specific buff to occur is given by the formula

where mb is the average wait time and t is the cooldown indicated on the mod. So the mb for a Rank 3 Charm to give triple affinity is:

27/(0.4*0.1) = 675s

This means for that one specific buff to occur with a max rank mod, the average time to wait is 11 minutes 15 seconds.

Alternatively, the average time for any given buff to occur with a max rank mod is

27/(0.4*1) = 67.5s

where 1 is equivalent to the sum of the chance of all buffs (100%).

Notes[]

  • Each instance of a buff has their own timer and are stackable; they do not overwrite each other. However, the HUD only shows the timer for the latest instance of a buff.
  • Every 27s there is a 40% chance to receive a random buff out of 6 buffs, getting a Triple Affinity Buff out of the 6 buff pool is 0.4*0.1 = 4%, getting the buff twice in a row is (4%)2 = 0.16%, the duration of each buff is 120s which means at most there can only be 5 possible instances active at the same time. The chance of that is happening is (4%)5 = 1.024×10−5 %.
    • Buffs durations can be extended using  Tek Enhance.
      • With  Tek Enhance each duration can increase to 156s, meaning 6 instances are possible. The chance of this happening is (4%)6 = 4.1×10−7 %.
      • Keeping in mind that all Affinity buffs are multiplicative, stacking an Affinity Booster(x2), an Affinity Blessing(+25% base Affinity gain), during an Affinity Weekend Booster(x2) adds up to 500% Affinity gain. Adding in the Double Affinity buff from Charm, it will stack respectively to 1,500% Affinity on one buff, 4,500% on two, 13,500% on three, 40,500% on four, 121,500% on five, and an immense 364,500% on 6 consecutive buffs. For reference, a Heavy Gunner worth 5,000 Affinity regularly would award an astounding 18,225,000 Affinity on kill.
  • The Reinforced Shields buff can trigger on Warframes without Shields, but will not grant Overshields to them. It can also trigger when at maximum Overshields on other Warframes.
  • The Energy refund buff can trigger on Warframes without Energy.
  • The Critical Chance Bonus sets minimum Critical Chance on weapons to 200%. Weapons that already possess critical chance above this value remain unaffected.
  • The Instant Reload buff can still be rolled even if the player unequips all weapons from their loadout.
  • The Charm buff can proc while still in the loading screen and the audible sound the Smeeta makes when it procs Charm can be heard as well.

Bugs[]

  • Sometimes, Warframe powers are unaffected by the critical chance buff.
  • While using  Ivara and the Reload buff activates, the player can fire the  Artemis Bow as if it had no arrow reload time.
  • At random times the mod will stop working for the rest of the mission.

Patch History[]

Update 38.0 (2024-12-13)

  • Fixed instances where certain buffs (notably Charm’s guaranteed Critical Hit buff) would unintentionally lower the Critical Chance of high crit weapons.
    • Mods, like Charm, forced weapons to adopt 200% Critical Chance, therefore unintentionally nerfing weapons above 200% Critical Chance.

Changes to Companion Precepts

Many Companion Precept effects are currently too small or too brief to be really beneficial. We want your choice of companion to feel more meaningful and for your Companion to contribute in a more visible way, so there are a whole lot of buffs to get through.

There is one notable precept that will need some special explanation. Out of respect for our readers, let's get that out of the way first:

  • Charm (SMEETA Kavat)*: The resource pickup multiplier has been removed from Charm and promoted to being its own separate precept Mod (Loyal Retriever), equippable on all Beasts. Charm's chance to provide a buff on activation has been increased to 40%. The available buffs are:
    • 25% chance of Reinforced Shield
    • 25% chance of Instant Reload (re-rolled if your current weapon doesn't need to reload)
    • 10% chance of Bonus Critical Chance buff
    • 20% chance of Free Ability Casts
    • 10% chance of Bonus Affinity. (Affinity bonus has been increased to 3x)
    • 10% chance to receive a Rare resource of the current mission location
  • Loyal Retriever (Beast companions): Provides a passive 13% chance that each resource or credit pickup will be doubled. This effect is always active: there is no cooldown, no duration, no waiting for it to be ready.
    • If you already own a Smeeta then you will receive Loyal Retriever for free automatically. In the future, this will be purchased with conservation tags from the Earth conservation vendor.
    • We chose 13% as being the statistical average of what amount of time Charm's resource bonus would be active.
    • Loyal Retriever and its variants are NOT compatible with Khora's Venari. While we definitely understand the comments asking for this, it wouldn't be in line with our goals to diversify the meta and steer away from a single "must have" looting loadout. If we were to allow this, Khora would essentially step into Smeeta's previous domination due to her unique ability to have two pets each with their own Retriever Mod.

*We know Smeeta is very popular so it's important we explain why this change is happening. There are two reasons:

  1. In a game with so much variety, we never want a specific choice of equipment to dominate our community. For some players, collecting loot is the most important part of any mission so anything that contributes to giving you MORE loot is so important that no alternatives can compete. Our intent is that opening the resource boosting part of Charm to all Beasts will increase your freedom in Companion selection.
  2. Charm’s randomness encouraged players to “wait for buff” in a way that was counter to Warframe’s speed and fluidity. It was advantageous to allow resources to pile up in the level, deliberately NOT picking them up until Charm gives the resource buff, which could take minutes. The resource buff could even stack, creating random chances on top of random chances, slowing down the game even more. In our fast-paced game about space ninjas, we want to reward players who are mobile and actively engaging with enemies, so we have reengineered the effect to be always active.

  • Fixed Smeeta's instant reload buff not applying to battery weapons, it will now instantly recharge beam weapons.
