You are either extremely lucky or a thieving wench. You probably don't even appreciate what you have now. My life. My soul. My art. You will need to prove yourself before I reveal the beauty within this work.
—Cephalon Samodeus, talking about Riven Mods in his teaser site

Cephalon Samodeus is the Cephalon thought to be responsible for creating all Mods (including Riven Mods) within the game. He also seems to be the one responsible to occasionally adjust the dispositions for every Riven Mod.

Initially slated to be added in along with the introduction of Riven Mods, the development of Samodeus' lore was not yet complete in time for its release and was ultimately scrapped. At this time, Cephalon Samodeus has not received any additional lore and has only been directly tied to the Riven Mods system, leaving queries as to how or why the Riven Mods were created under speculation.

  • "Until now, you've ignorantly used my creations for whatever suits you, but this is only a taste of what I have accomplished. For now, you can nest my beautiful creations inside your crude rifle like a sad philistine until you understand the depths of my unique creations."[1]
  • "The first thing you must learn is that each piece of my grand creation is malleable and unique. Each piece is both solitary and part of my fractured self. Do you understand? I fear I may have overwhelmed you already. To begin, I'll limit you to a dozen and three, but you'll quickly see the vast array of hidden possibilities, both rapturous and unfavorable. Now, leave me be and return here when you can share what my art has shown you."[1]
  • "My beautiful creations (which you know as Riven Mods) were beginning to bore me, so I've reconfigured certain parameters to make my art truly shine. Be cautious when engaging in your crude Tenno bartering, as some mods may not be as they once were."[2]

  • Samodeus' name could be possibly formed from the words Samo (Serbo-Croatian word for "just" and "only one") and Deus (Latin word for "God").
    • "Samo" is also the Proto-West Germanic word for "seed", referring to him being the creator of Riven Mods and presumably all Mods.
    • The prefix "samo-" is the word for "auto-" and "self-", both referring to the Mods being part of him.
