I am better than any of them! Fate and small, jealous others have conspired to inflict this upon me! You! Will you defy their cruelty and aid me?
—Bombastine

Bombastine, also known as The Covetous Courtier, is one of Dominus Thrax's courtiers of Duviri. He acts as the courtier and as the Orowyrm boss during the Envy Spiral.

When not the featured courtier of the spiral, he can be found entertaining a group of Duviri residents at The Agora. A hologram of him can also be found in one of the rooms in The Undercroft.

Lore[]

A flamboyant actor and playwright, Bombastine suffers from extreme pride and jealousy, and is unable to love himself. He harbors deep envy for his love interest, Luscinia, whom Dominus Thrax favors more. He claims he never loved her, but when he thinks no one is listening he secretly cries over her and confesses his love for her.[1]

Tales of Duviri - The Covetous Courtier[]

Bombastine was envious. Of what? Anything. Wherever his gaze fell, it seemed other people had it better.

Bombastine was envious of anything and everyone. It seemed other people had it better wherever he looked. Although he was Duviri's "preening peacock", and the subject of envy by many, he never felt that it was enough and did not care for it. Many loved him, but others were loved more and that was poison to him. Even when he persuaded others with sweet words, he only ever thought how his performance could benefit him. Each new conquest was a chance to stop, but he kept indulging in a new fixation like a child instead until he eventually set his heart on the throne. Bombastine did not realize that many people suffered from self-doubt, thinking it was his alone. Not loving himself eventually made him hurl himself into disaster, and he was consumed by his Envy.
