CODEX

Reverse-engineered from propulsion tech to pack a serious kick. Headshots trigger Overdrive, locking off secondary functions while maximizing your fire rate and ammo efficiency for a short time.

Athodai is a Tenno hand-cannon that shoots long-ranged laser beams, with an Alternate Fire function that discharges all ammo to burst-fire a short-ranged cone. Headshot kills with the primary fire increase the weapon's fire rate and grant unlimited ammo, but locks out the Alternate Fire.

Acquisition

• Athodai was acquired by watching TennoCon 2020 on WARFRAME's Twitch with a Twitch-linked account for 30 consecutive minutes, between 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET, on August 1st, 2020. It comes with a free weapon slot and pre-installed Orokin Catalyst.
  • Due to thousands of players reporting missing Twitch drops, on August 6th, 2020 Athodai was distributed to all players who had yet to receive the weapon if they were logged in to WARFRAME during TennoCon 2020, regardless if they watched the streams or not.

Characteristics

This weapon deals primarily damage.

Advantages:

• Innate damage – effective against Cloned Flesh, Infested, and Infested Flesh.
• Primary Fire shoots fully automatic rounds.
  • High damage – effective against armor.
  • Tied with  Plinx for the second highest critical chance of all secondaries, behind  Akbolto Prime.
  • Headshot kills trigger the Overdrive buff, increasing the weapon's fire rate and granting unlimited ammo for 8 seconds.
• Alternate Fire shoots a cone of energy, expending 24 rounds in a quick burst.
  • Good critical chance.
  • Very high status chance.
  • Pinpoint accuracy.
  • Innate 2 meter Punch Through.
  • Cone has a thickness of 2 meters.
• Innate  polarity.

Disadvantages:

• Innate damage – less effective against Proto Shields.
• Primary Fire:
  • No or damage – less effective against shields and health.
    • Damage cannot be increased with or mods.
  • Low status chance.
  • Overdrive buff increases recoil and disables Alternate Fire for its duration, and cannot be refreshed.
• Alternate Fire:
  • Damage cannot be increased with , or mods.
  • Limited range of 12 meters.
  • Prevents zoom.
    • This prevents the buffs from  Hydraulic Crosshairs and  Sharpened Bullets from affecting this mode as a result.
• Extremely low ammo capacity; requires just 2 reloads to fully deplete all ammo reserves.

Notes

• Upon headshot kills, the pistol gets an 8-second Overdrive buff which grants increased fire rate and allows it to consume no ammo while firing, bypassing the need to reload, but increases recoil and disables the Alternate Fire feature.
  • No weak spots other than actual heads will trigger this effect.
  • Duration cannot be refreshed.
• The Alternate Fire ejects exactly 24 rounds. Increasing magazine size, such as  Slip Magazine, will have no effect.
  • Alternate Fire can be interrupted (preserving the ammunition left in the magazine) by rolling or quick melee.
  • The Overdrive buff takes precedence over Arcane Pistoleer, meaning this weapon can not trigger the Arcane.
    • It is still possible to trigger Arcane Pistoleer with  Mesa's  Regulators,  Titania's  Dex Pixia and  Hildryn's  Balefire Charger, but the secondary fire will still be disabled upon switching back to Athodai.

Tips

•  Hydraulic Crosshairs pairs well with the primary fire's Overdrive buff.
