This unusual automatic rifle feels strangely familiar and has two fire modes. Primary fire packs radiation damage. Alternate fire charges up to launch an explosive projectile.

Aeolak is a rifle repurposed by the Void's Thrax Legates. Its primary fire shoots highly accurate fully-automatic rounds while its Alternate Fire doubles as a grenade launcher.

Characteristics[]

  • This weapon deals primarily  Puncture damage on its primary fire and  Blast damage on its Alternate Fire.
  • Alternate Fire charges a powerful round that explodes.
    • Shots explode in a 7 meter radius on impact with a surface or enemy.
      • Initial hit and explosion apply status separately.
      • Explosion does not need direct line of sight to deal damage and will penetrate walls.
      • Can benefit from  Firestorm ( Primed) and  Cautious Shot.
    • Charge time is not affected by fire rate mods.
    • Projectile is unaffected by Punch Through.
    • Charge is automatic and does not need to be held down.
      • Unless held down, the weapon fires as soon as it has reached a full charge, which can lead to premature firing.
    • Consumes 10 ammo per shot.

Acquisition

Aeolak's main blueprint can be acquired from Tier 5 Chrysalith Bounties. The barrel blueprint drops from Void Cascade. The receiver and stock blueprints drop from Void Flood. All components can be traded, but not the main blueprint.

Notes[]

  • The Aeolak's ability to act both as an assault rifle and as a grenade launcher makes the gun somewhat functionally similar to the Corpus  Tenet Tetra and  Stahlta, and the Entrati  Trumna.

Trivia[]

  • Artwork for the Aeolak was first showcased during TennoCon 2019.[1]
    • Accredited to 3D artists Tim Bergholz, Kaz Adams, and Lucas Hug and concept artists Keith Thompson and Lucas Hug.

Known Bugs[]

  • Manually reloading after using the alt fire will make the weapon default to a soundless Braton style reload. The Kuva Hek shares this bug.
  •  Galvanized Aptitude is multiplicative to base damage sources on direct shots.

Ammo Changes

We understand the power fantasy of these weapons is very popular for some, so our first approach was to keep them powerful, but limit how often they can be used by making changes to ammo pick-up.

Ammo Pickup Overrides
The following weapons now have ammo pickup overrides, meaning they gain less from picking up ammo. This mostly applies to AoE weapons, in hopes that players will become more deliberate with their aim to make the most of their Ammo pools. The following lists the specific ammo pick up overrides per weapon category.

Headshot Damage Changes

During playtesting, the ammo changes alone weren’t enough to significantly change things for AoE weapons. So instead of tightening these values to be overly restrictive, we chose to address other factors that make these weapons so strong, such as headshot damage.

Our approach here is two-fold, to reduce the impact of headshots for AOE weapons, but to also make precision headshots pack a larger punch overall.

  • Radial damage no longer gains extra headshot damage or triggers headshot conditions.
    • This is primarily targeted at the Ignis Wraith - as a “flamethrower” weapon, it’s hard to imagine a blanket of elements being precise enough to target weak points specifically. Explosive projectiles themselves can still land headshots, so there is still a reason to aim with most weapons for maximum damage.

Hotfix 31.6.2 (2022-06-15)

  • Fixed Aeolak’s magazine getting stuck in hand if the reload animation gets interrupted.

Update 31.6 (2022-06-09)

  • Terminal Velocity is now compatible with the Aeolak.
  • Fixed the Aeolak not playing the proper reload animation when the last shot in the magazine is from its alt fire.
  • Fixed Aeolak’s Riven disposition being 1.25 instead of 0.5.

Hotfix 31.5.6 (2022-05-04)

  • Fixed being able to sell Aeolak components for Ducats.
