It's a learning experience for them as well. Why bother people when you can have the answer you want faster, with less keys pressed, and written with greater care (probably more detailed and/or easier to understand)?

Maybe they don't know they can have this better answer. We tell them.

Also, I don't remember anyone being actually rude. We usually tell them the trolling way, granted, (and that's mostly a way to overcome the exasperation), but nothing more than that.

Edit: And no, they obviously didn't check the wiki.

I think it's rude that people who are capable of reading expect others to do the reading for them, and hope that people would bring them information anytime they ask instead of using the wiki for its actual function.

Imagine someone just lazing around all the time and keeps asking you to get up and get things for them when they are totally capable.

Maybe you might like holding their hand all the time, so you can be in charge of answering all their questions. Don't leave them hanging too long though, because I imagine they want their information as quickly as someone who checked the wiki, as some like to think asking the discussion board is faster.

I mean, someone does answer them eventually, but usually incomplete or at times incorrect answers because they were answered by other people who can't be bothered checking the wiki. You can help fix this by reading the wiki articles for them and making sure they get the best answer possible.

Rhetoric aside. For some of us, we feel it is kinder that we use each time they ask an easily searchable query, as an opportunity to teach them how to use the wiki. We could give a man a fish all the time every time they ask, but we've opted to teach them how to fish.

Let's not forget it's a discussion board, and those of us that show them how to use the wiki actually creates a discussion out of their 'where is argon crystal' 'discussion' ("in the void", great discussion, very stimulating). We even get to discuss the merits of checking the wiki VS checking the discussion board to check the wiki.

Our push back is also one of maintenance, without it, this place will eventually be flooded with one-answer 'discussions'... It gives the wrong impression to new users, as they begin to follow suit and totally not notice the entire wiki there for them to use.

Tell someone the answer and they’ll know THAT answer, teach them how to search for others and they will always have answers
