A Telepathic Warframe that uses enemies’ own skill and knowledge against them. Pathos is inspired partly by Victor from the Parahumans Web Serial. Pathos touches the minds of his enemies and learns from them in a much more direct manner than one might expect.
Passive: Thought Reader
By passively reading the minds of enemies the Warframe has some knowledge of the enemies’ codes. When hacking, a random 25% portion of the hack will already be completed on start. In the case of Corpus hacks, a portion of the hexagons will be correctly placed and greyed out to indicate which ones are affected by this passive.
This passive ability also affects allies within focus range of Pathos.
The Warframe actively begins to use their psychic abilities and listens to the thoughts of allies and enemies alike, temporarily gaining their experience. Using this knowledge Pathos hones his own martial abilities further, gaining a number of buffs. Observe has a skill meter which grows to 100% over time indicating when it reaches its cap.
This is a channelled ability that gradually increases fire accuracy and reload speed up to a cap affected by Power Strength. The base is 15% which increases by 1% for every additional 4% power strength after the base 100%
The strength of buffs and the Observe meter gradually increase over time according to power strength and duration. If ally players are within focus range this rate is sped up by 5% for each nearby teammate. Amplifiers (ability 3) also count for the purposes of this effect.
Whenever taking damage the Warframe gains a chance to dodge incoming fire which grows stronger over time as Pathos learns to anticipate enemy fire. Immediately starting at a base of 20% chance and eventually going to a maximum of 70%. The strength of this portion of the ability is not positively affected by Power Strength and remains fixed but can be decreased by having negative power strength (a reduction of 2% dodge chance for every 3% power strength under 100% base)
When deactivated the Skill meter decreases at a rate of 2% every second, 4% inside nullifier bubbles.
Power strength affects the rate of Observes increase and has an effect on both the dodge % chance and the strength of the other buffs)
Range has no effect on this ability.
Duration affects both the rate this ability charges up and has a small impact on energy drain.
Efficiency significantly affects energy drain.
2: Mental Overload
Releases a concentrated blast of thought and information around Pathos which staggers enemies with a headache, it may knock them down and deals damage. The stronger the effects of Self Improvement the wider the area of effect and damage.
Power Strength affects the damage of this ability.
Range affects the range of this ability. 7-10-12-15m range (the same as Radial Blind)
Duration has no effect on this ability.
Efficiency affects the ability cost.
Place an amplifier. Up to three can be placed at a time. While within range of amplifiers allies gain each other’s radar, (It seems DE have recently changed how the radar aura works, it no longer seems to grant you the radar of allies) experience and auras even when otherwise out of range. Amplifiers improve the effects of radar by 20% and 5% in the case of Auras.
Allies also within that range gain a portion of the benefit of the skills gained from Observe when it is active up to half of the buffs on Pathos.
When Amplifier is in effect it will also release a blast of Mental Overload when cast and channel the effects of Thief of Knowledge dealing 70% damage of the abilities at 80% range.
Power Strength affects the strength of the buffs given by this ability. (At 100% doubles the strength of the buffs)
Range affects the range at which amplifiers spread buffs and the Observe buff. (12m radius at base)
Duration has no effect on this ability.
Efficiency affects the cost of placing an amplifier.
4: Skill Thief
Instead of simply observing enemies’ knowledge and experience now enemies’ experiences are painfully taken from them leaving them incapable of performing otherwise normal actions. Enemies lose their fine motor skills and ability to carry out certain complicated actions. When the ability is deactivated, skills remain stolen from enemies as a permanent debuff.
Enemies inside the aura take moderate damage over time and are stopped temporarily as they enter the range of the ability (like Banshee Silence does) due to the sudden headache caused by Pathos’s invasive psychic contact.
Over time enemies may become briefly confused and disorientated again. The effect is stronger the closer enemies are to Pathos and the rate skills are stolen doubles if they are within 50% of the abilities range. Enemies are slowed by a fixed 10-25% and suffer reduced accuracy (also fixed) 20-40% as they forget their training.
Amplifiers will also allow the Warframe to drain abilities albeit at a reduced range from base (80%) and reduced rate (70%).
When active, Observe charges 0.5% faster for every enemy affected and Observe gains a 75% reduction in energy cost when active alongside Skill Thief.
Power Strength affects the damage deal by this ability.
Range affects the area of effect of this ability. (10-12-15-18m)
Duration affects the rate at which the slow and accuracy debuffs affect enemies and has a small impact on the channelling cost.
Efficiency affects the energy cost of this ability.
I haven't given much thought to ability damage, efficiency or duration. Those would have to be balanced carefully and that would be somewhat hard to do from the theory bench. Range is somewhat easier to conceive though I'm worried that the ranges given might be too high.
This concept originally started as a "teacher" or "trainer" but evolved into a telepathic mind reader down the way. As Nyx already exists I was conscious going in that there must be a distinction between mind "reading" and "control". I believe this concept is sufficiently different from Nyx that it has its own identity and could exist alongside her comfortably.
While the first, second and fourth abilities are powerful in their own right, the central part of this kit is the amplifiers, which allow Pathos to spread his psychic range and buff his teammates over long distances. I've packed quite a bit of synergy surrounding Amplifiers but there is also some to be had via Observe which affects Mental Overload and benefits in turn from Skill Thief.
The playstyle of this concept is heavily geared towards Interception missions in particular which often get the short straw in terms of Warframe's effectiveness on that mission type. This kit allows Pathos to buff his entire team even though they may be too far away to assist directly via his amplifiers.
Amplifiers also allow auras and radar to be shared across large distances aswell as buffing teammates which allows them to remain aware of the surrounding map in the event one location gets swarmed while holding their portion of the map.
